Got my windshield replaced..

Safelite just replaced my windshield and it looks great but the groove between the windshield and my roof has tiny chips of glass which I think it's from taking out the other windshield, I figured they would vacuum but I just say didn't.. has anyone else experienced this and how do I remove the glass can I just vacuum it?

I see those adverts on the telly, and wonder if it works with every make and model. Good to know. Did they have it in stock? How much was it? They came to you?

Can you post a picture of the shards? It’s odd they didn’t clean up.

Yes they do have most windshields and stock. And we took them about an hour to do and if you have insurance and you have comprehensive it's totally free. But they really do a beautiful job. I was only concerned because in the groove of the windshield they left some glass chips I guess from my old windshield and I was wondering why this is and maybe I should vacuum it out I'm trying to do it safely without causing any damage

Bit surprised they chipped the old screen though as it should come out as a single piece and being safety glass I have not seen it produce chips.

Anyway, it sounds like the bits are stuck in mastic which would explain why you can’t hover it up. No idea on how to get that out except by replacing the screen again

Worth mentioning for anyone reading this, it isn't always free if your on fully comp insurance. I am, and Admiral charged me £115.

I'm still waiting on Autoglass to sort my windshield. In fact a fitter last week or so was fitting a windshield to another car. Took him less than half hour to do (i got a BMW quote of 2.5 hours). He called head office for me, they said they would sort BMW glass.
I have even agreed to pay for BMW glass about £300, if Autoglass fit free.

What brand of glass was fitted to your car?

I spoke to fitter, he said they now use a sort of fishing line and take glass out pretty quick in one piece. Shouldn't be any broken glass, unless they have to start somewhere buy forcing something under the glass.
Must be quick, less than half hour after he arrived a windshield was fitted. Said he had another 6 to do that day.

What’s happening? How did the conversation go when you said you wanted original?

When I had a screen replaced in a BMW by auto glass I said I wanted original and they patronised me with a pre prepared story that they are all made in the same factory and the only difference is that one has “bmw” stamped on it!

Don’t know about the quality of the glass, but I found the black bit on the screen around the rear mirror and border of the screen is flat on original and pimpled on the one I got, this was important due to the way I mount my dashcam.

So much the same that they cannot fit theirs if you have the OEM BMW camera systems. Wonder how they would respond to that question then if you can’t use non OEM if you have cameras.

Well they say the usual. First insurance won't pay for original. Well i will then.
I much prefer to order glass from BMW and get it delivered to fitter.
Don't want to be fobbed off with some copy,. They say they fit oem, all that means it probably meets a minimum standard.
Certainly the oem they fitted was wavy down the sides, BMW glass was flat.
Fed up of everything being done on the cheap.
