Carol if you were travelling at 55mph you would have accelerated to 75mph, giving an average overtaking speed of 65mph which is the same as 29 meters per second. Approximately 7 seconds to overtake the lorry (18 meters + 4 car lengths) which equals 203 meters. If the van would have pulled out at the same time he would have travelled 91 meters (assuming average speed of 30mph). This would have meant there was still a distance of more than 800 meters between you and the van.

Safe driving from both sides!!!

Nobody at any time said anybody was driving unsafe, apart from a few gobsh1tes on here.
And the van pulled out when I was alongside the lorry which was a small scrap lorry btw so your calculations are out Einstein. Also my car is very shiny so you didn't take into account aerodynamics and the fact I have no aerial to affect wind resistance. Even so, you have just proved that I drove perfectly well and that I had plenty of time to get back over.

So, now I hope the z4 forum court may find me not guilty and the driving gods/judges will go back in their holes until somebody else mentions they waved at their mate the other day and they come down on them like a ton of bricks for taking hand off wheel for .98 of a second.

WOW thats a long time, pretty sure when I overtake I am not on the wrong side of the road for that long, and I don't drive an ///M.

I thought the thread was about abuse from drivers rather than driving 'skills'.

If you asked me, the van driver is an idiot for not looking. That's the bottom line and I wouldn't allocate fault to anyone else. That's my opinion of course which may not be in line with the Highway Code...

dont worry about it carol, sounds like the sort of thing we all do. I hate it when some twat gives you the sign when you are overtakin a line of parked cars , you are four or five car lengths in and they barrel through shouting the odds that its their right of way .! now they are w*nkers :thumbsdown:
