Got called a w*nker today!

Driving along behind a lorry with loads of clear road in front, pulled out to overtake and a white van (figures) pulls out onto the oncoming side of the road (of which I was on, overtaking) obviously without looking left onto the road he was pulling out onto. He didn't stop as he could see there were no cars on his side so drove up to the junction and straight out.
He wasn't there as I pulled out to overtake and I had then committed.
I saw him and put my foot down (even though I don't own an ///M :wink: ) and made it round the lorry in enough time for me to not sh*t myself :lol:
As the van approached he was doing the classic w*nker motion at me. Made me laugh.

Got me thinking how often that happens. People approach a junction and only look to the right and pull straight out. It must have caused a lot of accidents if there is a car on 'their' side of the road overtaking.
Anyone else had this happen?
 
Could have been any car Carol , don't paint all us white vanners with same brush :roll: id have given you the finger :D

I was nowhere near the junction and there was bags of road before the junction but I wasn't zooming round the lorry, probably doing about 55 (until he pulled out anyway - just in case!)and I would have been pulled back in before the junction. He pulled straight out tho, obviously without looking left as well. There was never any danger of a head on but I just wondered why people do that, I always look left as well, for that reason.
 
Overtaking near a junction you are always going to be taking that risk. I wouldn't say it's the vans driver, you are the "w*nker" on this occassion :wink:

Well, he was a bit of an idiot, overtaking when he saw a van waiting at a junction. You just wouldn't risk it. Outcome could be you and others are dead.
Can't put that one on me! Nothing was there and there was room before the junction to get round the lorry.
I was just wondering do people look left as well? He could still have pulled out but if you saw a car overtaking you'd wait, well I would anyway, just in case.
I can honestly say I didn't do anything wrong and I had plenty of road before I got to the junction but I just noticed him not stopping at his junction, he just pulled up to it and straight out.

But I wasn't near the bloody junction!!!!
Or does a junction being in view quite far away along a massive length of clear road be classed as overtaking near a junction?
 
Allow for the idiots Carol, not much point in being right but dead.

White vans do tend to pull out on the roads nowadays without even making an attempt to stop, even if there is traffic coming they barge their way in. Seems more common nowadays though.

Oh I do P, I've been driving for a good many years to mention and never, ever had an accident. I assume everyone else on the road is an idiot and that usually pays off!

Probably jinxed myself now :(
 
I guess we were all taught as a child- "look both ways". It applies to driving as well. If you are joining a road from a junction its your duty to pull up first and check that it is safe to do so, both ways. Having said that, most drivers don't, so its probably safer not to overtake if a junction is ahead, even a long way.

Similar thing, does anyone else get p'**d off when they slow or stop at a roundabout (usually a mini one-sometimes not) and a car approaching from the right, still doing 30+ miles an hour but at least 50-70 yards away just does not slow and keeps on coming as, 'they have right of way'. Just how far away do they have to be before that doesn't apply?
 
I always look right and left at junctions, why anyone wouldn't is beyond me. IMO it's lazy driving and anyone that doesn't look both ways probably has other dangerous driving habits. The one that really pi##es me off is pulling up to a T-junction and as I approach the stop line, a car approaching from the left and turning into the road I'm on cuts across my side of the road forcing me to brake sharply.
 
Can a Porsche really overtake :fuelfire:

You really needed an M135i to overtake safely :wink:

I would forget about it, I get the w***er gestures every day.
