Got a Z back in the Mik household today

As I suspected and hoped when I traded my Zed back for my 4th ! Boxster S, my daughter turned up in her new Z4 this evening. Its a 2 litre like mine was but an edition sport with only 7500 on the clock (pics will follow if it stays still long enough ! ) cracking little car, only downside is, she and I went for a drive this afternoon and although I gave it absolutely everything away from a set of lights just out of town , a 2 litre 09 plate MX5 left us in the dust....Pesky little things. I think they have just re worked the mk 3 and fettled the oily bits a little according to something I just read on google.
Can it really be so that an MX5 is quicker than a Zed albeit a 2 litre /

Considering it'll weigh a huge chunk less than your zed, I'd say that's to be expected.

The latest MX5 is only 4" shorter than the Z4, there not as small as you think, however a 2.0 litre MX5 is still lighter I believe and with the same power as the Z4 so not to surprised either.

Yeah ! been looking, the 2 litre Zed is 150bhp ( or thereabouts) and the latest MX5 released in April this year is a shade under 160.
As a side, looking at the spec of the range topper, you get BOSE , bluetooth handsfree , cruise , heated leather seats, climate, LSD, strut brace , multi fubction steering wheel//// don t know I would have one though

I had 2 Mk2.5 versions a few years ago, they are decent cars. Quite like the look of the new one, not enough grunt though.

Agree, the 0 to 60 figures are nt bad but lacking torque.... supposed to handle well though

I'm seriously thinking of an MX5 when the time comes to change cars. I am thinking of semi-retiring and so I need a car that won't have a Z4M's expensive tastes in fuel, tax, servicing etc!

Apparently the mk3.5 has sorted all the problems such as ride height and increased power slightly. A top spec coupe is a lot of very reliable, chuckable sports car for £20k !!!

Latest MX5 is about 160bhp and 1095kg against the Z4 at 148bhp and 1295kg

Sure there are lots of other factors including final gearing, gearbox ratios, torque, etc. but I'd hardly be surprised to see a car with 200kg less and a bit more HP leave the Zed.

Different cars and different approaches and you are comparing the largest MX5 engine against the smallest Z4.
