can people recommend some movies... not the best as i'll probably have seen them, so something less famous, etc. cheers

That sucks! Of course now I can't remember any... so here's a few for starters...

Garden State with Zach Braff (wrote and directed as well) and Natalie Portman. Welcome to Collinwood, a Coen-esque caper.

Life is Beautiful - fantastic, subtitled though! Glengary Glen Ross - from a Mamet play, huge cast! Rushmore - Wes Anderson. Rebecca - overlooked Hitchcock!

Pi - Darren Aronosky - chaos theory, Jews and Wall Street, quite dark but I love it... not to everyone's taste.

In Bruges, hilarious. Wonder Boys, Robert Downey Jr is superb - these are quite well known, but possibly overlooked.

If you haven't seen them yet, Iron Man, just good fun... The Hangover, very funny!

If you think it's going to last, The West Wing or The Wire box sets... although they will leave you feigning illness. I actually think everyone should watch these two anyway!

The Wrestler is immense. Bit sad though...

Body of Lies if you haven't seen it...

25th Hour is a bit different...

Charlie Wilsons War is eye opening...

If you don't mind subtitles go for

Paris Takedown (French)
Elite Squad (Brazilian)

Festive and funny - bad Santa. You can't beat the sight of billy bob doing a chubby up the wrong un shouting you ain't gonna sh1t right for a week!

cool thanks - seen some mentioned. just watching garden state at the moment. might try 25th hour or elite squad after.

Dreamer, i've seen it. quite funny.

keep 'em coming. :)

LA Confidential, Usual Suspects. Suspect you've seen them.

How about Scent of a Woman? No, not that sort. Al Pacino plays a blind ex army (I think) chap determined to have a lot of fun before ending it all. Needs a companion, quite good.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - everyone ought to see that film. Nicholson is brilliant.

Uncle Buck - simple fun.

Mamphis Belle - ostensibly just another war film, but a good portrait of how young they were and as such, quite humbling.

Apocolypse Now - because the rest of the time we're too busy to sit through it. Thought of as a wzr film but actually a horror film in which the hero becomes the monster he seeks.

How about some old British classics? OK, dated now, but you'll probably never find time otherwise and they're worth it for the artistry and to see how films were made then. Check out the background detail and context. The Third Man won an Oscar for cinematography.

Maybe some different ideas there. A good opportunity to try something new.

Hope you feel better in time for Christmas mate.

Bullitt - but ONLY the original.

Thomas Crown Affair - ditto.

9 - very entertaining Tim Burton science fiction animation - if you liked Nightmare Before Christmas you'll like this.

Anything with Emmanuel in it.... helps the blood circulation don't you know.....

watched garden state yesterday - not my type of movie, but thanks.
watched the trailer for 25th hour which looks good. i'll be watching that later on! :)

A film that surprised me, Derailed, very good thriller with a great twist

Keeping Mum, great film

Saving Grace, very amusing

I have to say "Zombieland", best movie I've seen all year. Combines funny with zombies and gore in the best way, and do up your seat belts.

And Ronin, for the car chases. (I used to have an A6 that was amazing to drive, when it wasn't in the shop  )

I know it was an S8, we couldn't get any S models back then, the occasional S6 would get imported and the A8 were just big luxo boats.
The S8 only had 300hp in those days, nope, my mistake, the S6 had 300hp, same as my Zed today

but it's still a good movie.... :P :P

Here's another one...."Vanishing Point" ... features a Dodge Challenger, kind of a classic for North American muscle car movies.
