Got a 2.2, change to 3.0?

Hi guys,

I only purchased my 2.2 in February this year, 05 reg and currently doing 35k mileage. However, I am feeling that the baby (not literally...not yet anyway) does not satisfy me speed-wise than when I first bought it. Before the Z, I was driving a 1.8 MR2 and I thought the 2.2 would be an upgrade enough, but I was wrong! Husband has a 330 and that gives a bit more thrill. But I don't want to change yet as I would be losing out on money(?) Has anyone had a smaller engine Z and changed to a larger one? I drive the Z to work and my husband usually drives us on weekends but at the moment he's refusing to drive it because it's too slow for him :o (the cheek). I would really consider a black 3.0 as I definitely would like a bit more thrill! What do you guys think?

They are a world apart! The 3.0 has an engine that can really get the car moving at a speed that will keep up with (non 'S') Porsche Boxters. You may not even find that the 3.0 will use that much more fuel. Unlike the 2.5, which needs lots of revs, the 3.0 can cause the car to gain speed quickly at all times.

However, I would disagree with others in that I think that the steptronic auto is a *far* better car than the manual. It may be a bit slower and thirstier on paper, but in real life (unless you are an absolute expert who is prepared to thrash your car) neither is true.

Get down to your local BMW dealer and have a go in one - they will be only too glad to see you in the present financial climate - but be prepared to spend money, because you might not like your 2.2 as much after your test drive!

You know where a 3.0i is to test whenever you want.

Change from a white to a black - big step. You'd best be ready for a lot of washing and polishing to keet it clean, but they are soooo beautiful if well turned out.

If you did it, I'd look for a facelift as your in that age zone where you'd be wanting to cross to a 2006 and upgrade, rather than an older model at similar price.

....and before you guys all start harping on about 2.0 is faster than an ///M and that auto is slow, I think you'd find the move to a 3.0i astonishing in any form.

Totally agree with C10Jeeper, the 3.0 is awesome, just for the sound alone (providing you remove the foam from the sound generator that is).

I really cant see how you would regret changing to a 3.0 !..........go for it.

i have a 2.2 also but nothing compared to a 3.0!

Another option is to mod ur 2.2 like i did to make it more "powerfull" :D
Plenty of options :remap, headers with full exhaust or even a supercharger.

Am quite happy with my 2.2. :driving:

Thanks for your comments guys. I'm currently looking at a few black 3.0 but just trying to get a good deal because I don't want to lose out on any money changing so cars so quick (only since Feb). I'll keep posting!
