Gorilla's trip to Sweden

With a new job it came time to relocate last week, so the Z4M was loaded up as full as it would go.

Joining me was an old friend, Gorilla, he wasn't the happiest with his seating position.

After a quick driver over from Cheshire to Hull, then an overnight ferry to Rotterdam a fill up about an hour into Amsterdam, we quickly got into Germany and after a few hours on Autobahn driving we needed the second refill. It really doesn't do your fuel economy any good when doing double the UK's speed limit but bein wary of the stopping distance in a heavily loaded car there wasn't that many opportunities to open her up.

A quick stop for a burger

Gorilla had his usual banana

And then the wait for the second ferry

The next morning we wake up at our destination...
After 45 minutes driving around the city centre, over deeply set drain covers and numerous tram tracks, I was ready to get out of the Z4M :-\ Luckily outside of the city centre the roads are fine.
I finally found my new place to live and Gorilla settled in to enjoying his new view.

The security feature, just outside...

So it's time to find some euro spec xenons and there will be one less M roadster registered in the UK and one more in Sweden.

Can you use the levers in the headlamps to dip right or do they only mask ?

What are the long term implications of keeping a UK registered car in the country on a long term basis ie road tax, insurance, test cert and possibly registration plates ?

I ask because a pal is taking his (my old) z4 to France in this case, on a permanent basis.

Nice write up there.
I hope it all works out and you'll have no problems selling your UK headlights, I wouldnt think !

I believe the levers only stop the side bias projection, there's different part numbers for the EU and UK lights (Japan uses UK part numbers too) Oddly the US has different numbers again, maybe something to do with sidelights.

Long term you're insurance probably won't cover you in Europe over 30 days. I'll need to do a permanent registration in Sweden as I'm becoming a Swedish resident due to being in permanent employment here. Registration of the car here means the fog light has to be on the correct side and obviously the headlights have to point the right way. As it's a modern European car, it confirms to the other standards and the MOT means it's road worthy but they'll still look it over for a Swedish registration. Then I'll need to sort out Swedish insurance and cancel my UK insurance and tax, whilst putting my registration on retention.
In Sweden you also have to have owned the car for more than a year if you're importing it, otherwise there is duty to pay.

I think I'll keep the original headlights for now, who knows what my plans will be in a year or two's time. The games industry is a fickle one, my last studio closed it's doors last week :(

Good luck in your new job,and probably a good idea to keep your existing lights,u never know.
was good yo meet u at a couple of meets,National etc....all the best.

where are you staying?

I would have thought the view of a great big naval boat out the window would be a clue

Will do  can I "borrow" your headlights for the registration test? :P

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone :)

If you don't know plans after a year give Stuart Collins a call. They offer 365 day EU cover. Would avoid all the hassle of importing until you know for sure your plans. Good luck
