GoPro Hero2 External Mic

Am looking to get an external mic for my Hero2. A bit of internet research has put the Olympus ME-15 and Audio Tecnica ATR3350, with the Olympus as the preference as it has a 1m cable which can be used with an extension compared to the 6m cable of the AT. Has anyone got any experience of these mics or would recommend alternatives?

I use that exact Audio Tecnica with my Go Pro type cam. Works pretty well and the long lead is useful as it stretches nicely under the bonnet for better engine sound or anywhere you like really which is useful. Audio quality is pretty good, bit on the quiet side I've found but a bit of post processing techniques sort's that out. I've used the mic on both of the video's I've done for my Gruppe M recording's which you can find the link to on the M forum somewhere (search for Gruppe) if you want to get a feel for what it can sound like.

For the money, it's a pretty good bet for me without going uber expensive

Thanks, just checked out the tunnel vid. It does seem to get good reviews. How often do you have to replace the battery? Think that one will best for car vids but I can't help thinking the 6m of cable will be a nuisance any other time.

I have purchased the Olympus ME15 along with an extension lead. Hoping to try it out at a trackday on Friday and post the video up here. Just need to work out how to secure it close to the exhaust.

I've been looking for a half-decent mic for not too silly money, post some videos up when you've done your track day Wilbo - I'd be most interested :)

Finally managed to get the vid uploaded to Vimeo, my upload speed is shocking! This is with the Olympus ME15 mic clipped to the number plate. I pulled the storage bin from behind the passenger seat and fed an extension cable through from the go pro and routed the mic cable out the boot. Its not amazing quality but it sounds much better than using the Gopro mic and hearing all the shaking and rattling it makes!

I have an audio technica atr3350 on the way as I won a brand new one on ebay for £7 :D so will try it with that fitted once it arrives. That is a powered mic so may make it even better.
