GoPro editions

Getting the Black Hero 3+ edition, but am a bit confused about the pricing on Amazon.

The base unit seems to be £277, or £299 depending on from which supplier it seems. Then you have the Motorsport edition for £350 which contains some unidentified mounts (does not mention the required suction mount though).

Best to buy the cheapest at £277 and buy the mounts I need separately or does anyone know what is included in the various versions that makes it worthwhile to get a package?

I hit the same dilemma a while back when looking and ended up not doing anything.

Be interested to hear if anybody has any recommendations on the best kit/price.

I have converted my NatWest credit card points into Amazon vouchers, so have those burning a hole in my pocket and want to allocated it to this before Mrs PVR buys all sensible stuff with them :D

I have a 3+ Black. You should be fine with the focus problem. That affected early serial numbers IIRC.

I just bought the standard kit which comes with plenty of different mounts including the disposal adhesive backed ones, and then I got the suction mount separately, which is great for use inside or outside of the car. I've seen it used on a drift car doing fast laps so it is very safe to mount externally. It cost £30 I think.

I've also just purchased one of these too... http://www.lowepro.com/dashpoint-avc

I've had a few tests of mine so far and the picture quality is superb. Unfortunately I haven't had chance to get to grips with editing yet so I haven't posted anything because of this! I'm a bit crap when it comes to using software like the GoPro Studio so it takes me a lot longer to get to grips with it than someone more technologically minded.

The iPhone app is also really good too and means you don't really need an LCD backpack.

Is the iPhone app quick enough to connect? I am thinking that if I want to hand film, I would have no idea what I would be aiming at.
I borrowed by son's Hero2 on holiday which has the LCD backpack. The menu was a real pain though, so I hope that with the remote or app it will be easier to use.

I was looking at the 3+ black indeed, and saw the focus issue on the 3 (not sure if it affected the 3+ though), but in any case that seems to be history now for any unit bought now.

I wanted to try the suction mount on my glass roof of the Porsche as at least it won't be touching paint then, and it sounds ideal with the iPhone app to actually see what you are recording so if the car dips too much when driving or so, that you are not just recording the sky.

That is what I thought, but the 3+ does not seem to come with anything like that.

The 4 is due out in October, there might be some deals available soon to clear stocks.

Did not realise that, will wait with buying it then and get the 4 in October. Would hate to get the old model a couple of months before it becomes old technology.

You should probably not bother for 9 months or so then because the new versions usually ship with teething troubles. It takes a few months for them to get ironed out. I think GP use the first adopters as unofficial testers!

I have the Hero 3+ Black Edition. Great camera. Had no issues. I bought the basic kit then a couple of mounts (including the suction mount) and the flexible extension arm. I also now have the small clip on touch screen for the back of the GoPro for when I use it as a still camera.

I just took my iPhone and GoPro on a trip to Cornwall a few weeks ago. Impressed with it as a still camera.

These pictures are impressive [as always] Breaker. Great results from the GoPro. You may just have sold it to me!

Also specifically where have people purchased for the best useful kit deals? Amazon the best bet?

Amazon has the £290 deal from Amazon or £277 from a market trader I have never heard of.

With the vouchers, I have no choice so will get it from there. I am in no hurry but on the other hand don't really want to wait another 6 months if V4 release has issues ...
