Got it today, first impressions? 6 out of 10.

Remote - does not work, does not charge, does not synch. Did a search on that and seems a common problem, will not switch on and when charging I have to hold the cable in a certain angle to get it to show a full battery charge symbol after which it switches off straight away again. Very weak … (and useless by the looks of it).

Tried a quick record session on the windscreen of the car - it was not happy as it caught too much reflection, must try something else. On the Porsche I will try it on the glass roof to see what that is like.

The sound is useless, will buy a dedicated mike as it is just bad.

Overall a little disappointed with it so far :(
 
I use the suction cup on the windscreen and put the camera in upside down mode and it's fine pvr. Really good quality. Are you using it in a case? For in car filming you'll get much better sound without any casing. Shame about the remote - mine is fine. Try the iPhone app - that does the same job and does it better because you get to see what you are filming as well.
 
Oh, total recording time 15 minutes, trying to synch the remote for 20 minutes and the battery of the GoPro is flat.

original guvnor, I had it upside down in the car yes. But the windscreen mount is just not adjustable enough to get a right angle - so I added another angle part to it to be able to get it closer to the screen and will have to try again. This was just a test in the Polo but I got a lot of reflection from inside the car.

Not sure why the windscreen mount is not sideways adjustable at all either, can only go one way.
 
The iPhone app is fine - not sure why it often can not find the GoPro though. "No camera found", have to switch off my wifi on the phone, close the app, and switch it all back on and then it is ok again.
 
I ended up buying the suction cup pvr. It's got plenty of potential uses (you can use it externally on the windscreen too for example), and it's apparently engineered to cope with speeds up to 150mph although I haven't tested that particular claim!
 
I have the suction cop too. The press part to remove the air is a great feature, it is the OEM GoPro one so expensive but it misses the sideways adjustment.

I will put it on top of the Porsche to see what recording is like, at least with the iPhone app I should be able to see if I am recording the sky when driving.

I am going to get the Aputure V-Mic D1 for external audio so I can put it more to the back of the car and avoid wind noise.

I need to buy an external mic. I'll look into that one you mention :thumbsup:

Are they going to replace your wifi remote for you? It's quite useful in some circumstances so it's a pity it isn't working properly.
 
It is Amazon though, so don't know how that is working. Guess I will have to contact GoPro.

What confuses me is that the software version is 2.17 whilst the new remotes supposed to be 2.2. Did I get an old unit I wonder.

The good thing of that mic is that I can use it on my soon-new Canon 7d for sound recording as well.

Send it back, wait for the 4.

That experience isn't right for a new and supposedly robust product. Doesn't work the way it promised it would. Like buying a new car but the engine only runs for 58 mins at a time and one of the doors won't open.

Saying that though, I guess the 4 will come complete with teething problems of it's own and a next gen variant.
 
I can't check what version I'm using at the moment because mine is packed in a suitcase ready for a few days in the sunshine.

I am leaving this weekend as well, got a case like that for my birthday as well.

Got 3 spare batteries as well, looks like I will need them ...
 
I understand the GoPros are poor as a dash cam which is why I gave it a miss, obviously a good choice for other uses. Received my Mini 0803 cam yesterday and will be fitting it to the car tomorrow.
