Google Phone / Bluetooth

One of the things I find frustrating about my Nokia is that the bluetooth integration with my 2004 Z4 is restricted to calls only (ie. no phonebook / text messaging...etc).

You may have heard that the G-Phone is now available in the US and soon to be in the UK. As it is on Google's open architecture (Android), does this mean it should be possible to make it fully functional with BMW Bluetooth, via a 3rd party add-in if necessary?

Techie one, but I know some of you clever chaps are out there...

(By the way, does the Apple iPhone integrate fully with the 2004 bluetooth system?)

Welcome to the forum!

Google doing phones too now :?

someone more knowledgeable should be along in a minute :D

hmmm.. experience of this world tells me that it will also only support calls and fonebook out of the box, but you *may* find some group decides to write something to support further, but i highly doubt it.

it does seem that very few phones actually support the SMS feature at all.. can't remember which do - early Sony Ericssons was it ?

The phonebook thing seems to work on most though, question of whether you have them on your SIM or fone and how many there.

With respect to the bluetooth system, it's all about which version bluetooth ULF you have - the brain that sits in the boot. You could even buy a newer one (ebay) and swap it, onto an earlier car to upgrade compatibility, expect to pay up to about £200 for one.

THey have made 13 types, I know they tout the 13th gen one to fully support Iphones, but I think thats to sell them - I believe it would work with 12+. However - the latest IPhone software (2.0.0?) has stopped supporting bmws.. the older v1 still does. So I think if you have a 3g iphone, its all about calls only again.

Here's the list of ULFs: http://www.bimmernav.com/ulfchanges.html
