Google map route to satnav

Being shallow and vacuous, I love gadgets. I really like the fact I can take my time poring over a route, then send it from google maps in the comfort of my own home or office to my satnav ready for that day, next day or next week.

I am off to the Peak District for a long weekend next week and have picked out a few roads I would like to drive. I plan to take in some of the nicer drives which are not busy with motor cyclists. Bearing in mind that we will probably do the roads on Thurs/Fri I hope it won't be too busy with like minded!

By the way, you need a googlemail account to send the route to your nav (professional with on line services)

I thought google only sends the destination and your car sat nav is left to determine the route. I would love it if I could create a totally custom route on gmaps and send it to the car.

Nice feature to be able to do that with Google.

Which parts of the Peak - it's my backyard and have too mnay years experience of driving and walking the area :)

It is possible to have your google maps route translated to a tom-tom itinerary...
Sk93 did it for the lakes/dales weekend from routes I entered on google maps, and they worked a treat.

Though I then tried to do the recent Wales run with a program called 'Tyres' and it didn't work at all, I don't think it got one turning right all day! Think it's more likely that I did something wrong than the program went wrong though...

Just south near Osmaston. Looking for a nice road or two for early morning drives at first light to stretch the E89. Has done just over 1000 miles since new 3weeks ago. Your experience would be much appreciated!

We plan to walk the Dovedale too. Have done it before, lovely!

VAshbourne is my start base - wife born about 10 miles away so no surprise there

Walk Dovedale all the way to the bridge at Alsonfiled and grab a snack there and sit by the river  When you get back lunchh/beer, etc at the Izaak Walton is neat.

Hi petach,

I've been using this for a few months now, don't need a gmail account though.
You can go through your connectedDrive account, or just go here:

Log on is on top left of window. Fairly straight forward to use

Yes I would second that emotion  , the bmw-routes option is very well laid out & user friendly, especially for the gadget lover. Just had a look at it for the 1st time, spent 2 1/2 minutes planning a 65KM route exactly how I wanted with a simple Right mouse click where I wanted a waypoint and selecting add destination; system auto updated route as I went along and then I saved the route to "My Routes" and had it transferred to the Z in no time at all, very easy.

It's going to make meets and the associated routes very easy indeed, no getting lost and all that :D
