Goodyear Eagle Asy 5's - 255/35 R18 - £106 fully fitted

Hi all - not sure if this is the right section, but given that this is a popular forum tyre I thought I would post as others may be interested.

Managed to get F1 Autocentres to match the price of tyreleader.co.uk (who stock the Goodyear Eagle Asym 5's at £99). The cheapest cost of fitting near me was £10 a corner, at a pretty shoddy centre if I may say so, which F1 Autocentres beat by 10% (technically the difference in price by 10%) using their price guarantee.

£106 fully fitted is the lowest I have seen, so thought I would share.

Ive recently returned my Assy 5s to black circles, the noise they were generating was bloody awful, on ultra smooth surfaces they were fine but anything less than new tarmac and they made an awful racket, shame as they gripped the road beautifully, moved onto Michelins and much better although somewhat ironically still noisier than the runflats I removed..seems to be a lot of reports on forums of this happening with Goodyears which is odd as in reviews they are generally rated as one of the quieter tyres ..anyway just a word of warning, you could get a set that are just fine, the offer with black circles was £411 for all 4 corners fitted so was a good deal

Interesting..I fitted a set to my Zito 935 18" wheels..but won't be able to use them till next spring / summer as I'm wearing out my Conti sport contacts on my 17" Pro Race 1.2 wheels prior to some winter tyres (if I get enough use)

The reviews on the A5s all seem very very good?

Interesting - I have a set of Avon ZZ5's on at the moment which have been just fine - lasted about 23,000 miles which is pretty good. Interested to see what the Asy 5's are like

i previously had zz5s, but they wore in a wavey pattern which made them make a weird whirring noise. switched to GY assy5s after only hearing positive reviews of them, and very reasonably priced.

£106 fully fitted for a 255/35/18 is a great price, nearly £30 cheaper than blackcircles currently.

Interesting you noticed that Mr T , can't comment on the A5s as never tried but i have a big issue with the PS4s that seem to be everybody's favourite right now , the grip cold , hot , dry , wet isn't in question or the durability but jaheeeeez i found the tyre roar off them deafening first off on a 35is , just couldn't tolerate the noise roof down at any speed over 45-50mph , i sold them & replaced with part worn PZERO & silence returned ( though can't say they were anywhere near as composed )
I then bought a 997 C4 with brand new ps4s fitted & same again switched out this time for Vred Vorti & again the decibel level behind the wheel dropped massively .

Ive learnt to ignore most comments & performance numbers given in online reviews as unless they were done with exact tyre sizes & same vehicle that you have they rarely mirror the findings , that's why i like to try different makes / specs .
Nokians have been the brand that has surprised me lately though they can be pricey , the latest Pirelli PZ4 is also pretty hard to beat for those who want a high performing PS4 type tyre

Indeed.. The Vredesteins are the best performing tyre ive used over the last 10 years when you take in all aspects of use, great grip wet or dry, decent wear and comfortable and quiet, respectable price too, very hard to beat imho

Ive just fitted a full set of non run flat Dunlop Sportmaxx tyres, very impressed with them so far, there are up there with my Goodyear Eagles I had on my previous Z4 £436 fitted for 4 via Protyre

Supposed to be the quietest tyre on the market.. how do you find them? Must admit noise is not something i have ever considered before when buying but after those Goodyears it will be a consideration going forward

I have just removed MPS3 RFTs all round and replaced them with GYEF1 ASSY5s. I have had these on all my last 3 cars and had no complaints. I spend most of my time on the motorway with 25% on B roads.

I can say they are considerably quieter than the MPS RFTs I removed. But you need to factor in a new tyre with full tread can drone on some modern motorway surfaces.

Could be subjective for me as I hated the RFTs.

The noise figures are drive by noise figures as heard by an external observer ...for many reasons the noise perceived by the driver could be very different for many factors such as induced noise transmitted through the suspension to the cabin. resonances etc..

Indeed, you would expect them to have some relevance to the driver though, surely the noise they create in driving is the same noise produced in the cabin just experienced differently through the dynamics of different cars, if a tyre on a test car produces say 70db but on a z4 produces 73, you would surely expect another tyre producing say 72db on test car to have a higher score again. Having a tyre that has 73db being quieter than ones producing 71 and 70 just seems ridiculous and if thats the case what is the point of having them at all.. its almost a case of pot luck of what you will get and have to put up with if excessively noisy which is not what you want when you're forking out 400 large

It’s not necessarily so...for example the rubber blocks in the bushes are ‘tuned’ for certain frequencies ..if say the tread pattern generates NVH that the bushes are not tuned for ..so that tyre will appear ‘noisy’ compared to another tyre that the suspension / bushes isolates better..

Each person perceives noise differently.. I drive almost exclusively top down hi-fi cranked up...my perceptions are different based on that config compared to someone top up no music on..

Of all tyres ive tried in the last 5 years the SportMaxx RT + RT2 were way out in front in terms of audible noise in cabin at any speed , they were really quiet & the Z4 i had at the time (ZMR with 19 inch genuine CSLs) felt very comfortable & compliant on them , id certainly have no hesitation over buying them again ( for those remotely interested in tyres Dunlop are now owned & manufactured by Goodyear as are Fulda )

I am surprised by the comments about the Asy 5s being noisy, I changed the Bridgestone run flats to Asy3s and they are quiet, certainly way more quieter than the run flats they replaced. Although I remember seeing in the official data that the Asy3s were a little bit more quieter than the Asy5s the main reason I opted for the older Asy3s (they were the same price at the time) but I shouldn't think the Asy5s would be hugely more noisier and certainly not noisier than the runflats.

I thought my Cross-Climate+ were noisy, until I put on the Bridgestone WeatherControls (on the 330d) :x

Only went for the Bridgestones as their wet weather performance was better than the Michelins, and I wasn't planning on taking the 330D on track
