Goodbye Z4 - it's been emotional

haha - you should know thats asking for too much :)

Here's the new ride, quickly snapped on the first evening while I took the (smiling?) other half for dinner...

2009 120d M Sport 3dr
Ex BMW Management Car - 2,269 miles on the clock
Flashpoint Sensatec
Cruise Control
Sun Protection Glass
Electric Folding Mirrors
18" 208 Alloys (with more bloody run flats!!!)

Oh i almost forgot, the saving on buying this 11 months into its life versus the new price at the time was £9,250! Who'd buy new :O

I do like it, good lookin with the M Sport Pack on it, nad I think that runs just fine with that engine.
I was lookin the 1 series before I bought the Zed, I think those are not bad at all and with rear wheel drive you can fun with it too.
:)

You now probably only have to fill up your car twice a month. My Z4 drinks 1 tank of Shell V-Power every 6 days.

I really like the wheels on your 120d. It will be nice if the car has xenon headlights.

There are 3 2009 120d M Sport (5-door) on BMW website, but the prices are around £18-19k. As you said you saved over £9k on your 11-month-old car. You paid just over £15k???

its still not properly run in...but I did fill it up yesterday after burning off the 'free' half tank the dealer gave me to get home - 528 miles to the tank - so it should last me two weeks minimum, but the Z4 was once a week, if lucky...

I have got rid of alot of the extras that i had in the Z, although this car definitely has many more standard features than a Z does - I had Xenons before and now I have straight up halogens - I am quite surprised how much they have come on to be fair - might swap in a set of Philips Ultrawhites as they seem to be highly rated...

The new price of a 120d M Sport three door with the options I have is £26,250, I paid £16,995 for it :) - i would never have paid the new price, but with the initial hit I got a good buy all things told - the 3dr is more expensive than the 5 in most cases, having only been introduced when they brought out the facelift 1er.

The 120d is actually quite nice, it's not even slow at 163hp or 177hp for the newer models, and yet very economical, I would love to have an 130i or the 135i coupe, that thing must be a riot to drive :D

The 130i is around, but they are stopping making them for the UK market - they look to becoming collectible in some shape or form as they are already pretty impressive cars.

The 135i was rumoured, but apparently there is still a possiblity of a 135i equivalent M coupe 1 series - possibly...

177 in mine and I am still enjoying it alot, its not such an effort to drive, but is pretty rewarding when pushed. Prts of me miss the 'overdrive' sport button from the Z4 - used to make the smile that little bit bigger.

The 120d is doing a fair few miles at the moment, and very economically too - I am liking the additional toys you get as standard in it too - then theres the auto wipers, the auto lights the puddle lights the handle lights thefront and rear PDC etc etc etc.

Thank god the CC works the same otheriwse I probably would have killed myself by now lol

As a side note, I just noticed the dealers put my Z4 up for sale, not a bad 50 - yes F.I.F.T.Y percent market up over the trade in price!

makes me feel like I got mugged :(

Funny thing is that last time the dealer was fixing my 3.0 Z4 they lent me a base model one series diesel (120d iirc). It was another nail in my Z4's coffin when I realised just how much faster the 120 was on all the bumpy roads in my region. You learn to live with the runflats on the Z4 (while you wait for them to wear out), but a trip in a car with sorted suspension (like the 120) really brings it home how bad the early Z4s are.

(Note my car was an early Z4 - I have always believed that they introduced the runflats late in the Z4 development programme and couldn't be bothered to recalibrate the suspension. All the newer loan cars I have had from BMW have all been much better, so I guess RFTs can work!)

What make of rfts were on the 120? I think they vary a lot. Mine were Euforias and it was bumpy roads where they were awful.

Not sure what make the 120d was running, but the whole car had that 'together' feeling that I last felt in my old e36. It's not really my type of car, but I was really impressed
