Good reason to have a dashcam?

That shut them up

I bought one a few months ago because tyres were being slashed where I have to park - £25 off fleabay, HD, movement detection and with a big memory card it records all day, quite funny sometimes when people stare inside :)

Sorry about diverting the thread  this isn't the one but just about, I've found mine records best in 640x480 and although the movement detection on mine works OK it can be a bit slow to start so I just leave it on. The files just keep writing over but will keep more than 24 hrs with a 32 SD card. It's great for the money. There's loads on fleabay and ideal for dealing with sh1*s like these in the X5 :x

This one also gets pretty good reviews on Amazon.

Not considered fitting one of these before, but for around £25, it's worth seeing how well they work.

Where do you fit it though ? And if it is spotted, might some Ned try to break in and steal it ? Like the idea though

I started doing this about a year ago using my iPhone with a program call iWitness. It record up to one hour and then over writes unless a segment is saved.

Thinking the same, dont want it sitting there like a sat nav for neddy to half inch

We'll get slammed in a minute deka :P

I was of course referring to where it would be mounted as a security cam when parked up... Rather than on the dash when travelling.

What surprises me is the people getting out the X5 don't really look like your typical crash-for-cash stereotypes (I'll not divulge my image of what that may be - don't want to offend anyone!!).

Have been tempted by the car cams a few times. Sometimes just for recording fun trips out like forum runs, other times by incidents like a mate's Lotus that was written off by a 'hit and run' while parked in a car park. I know I'm by far the perfect driver and know I don't stick by this rule like I should, but like to think I'm fairly defensive in my driving and don't let myself get into a position where someone could crash into me. Something as simple as someone slamming it in reverse in a queue of traffic though and what defense do you have :? :o

I was thinking somewhere towards the top of the panel behind the seats, although not sure if it would be possible to get the correct lens view and focus?

These cheap alternatives to a Roadhawk (well not really but you know what I mean) - worth it?

Easy enough to hide the power cable?

Do you have to manually switch it on each time you start a journey? (I know I'd prefer something to fit and forget)

Quality sufficient to make out details/plates clearly?

Would be good to see photos of the device in situ - I'm concerned they'd be too visible from outside...?

I've tempted by one of these as I know their worth after my bike commuting incident...

Another good reason
I have an app on my iPhone called Witness that is very good

Me in works van on roundabout in Edinburgh. Look at the wee white road markings :headbang:
Just cause car in front moves over into a new lane doesn't mean I'm going to lucky enough I saw him and moved over he then gave me a dirty look FFS

The cheapie I mentioned above is the same quality as the OP footage, you can leave it full time and with a 32 SD card it stores probably 2-3 days of footage on a rolling file, or leave it on motion detect where it only comes on when something moves (like rain hitting a window!) manually switch on/off or it will come on when plug power comes on if you wire it to a circuit that live with the ignition. For a fiver more they have IR and low-light night capability. It has a rechargable battery so works for a few hours off power. For £25 it's worth it for gadgeteering anyway.
