It is just a taster session, I might hate it :D

Seems to be a marmite car, some really don't like driving it so I would have to be very sure to change the M. Especially as my M is probably one of the best about as a true single owner without a single swirl mark thanks to its coating.
coating? what coating? :?

I think he had some very expensive paint protection put on it from abroad if I recall correctly & its helped keep it looking pristine. :)

Don't know if you've ever owned a GT3 but I had a new car a few years ago, they're fine for the track but living with the hard ride was very unacceptable, an E85 on run-flats was a very soft ride compared to a GT3 and I sold my car a few months later.

I did briefly think about ordering the new 991GT3 until my DP told me I'd just have the same trouble again because the ride hadn't improved

Graham I actually think the ride on them is easier to live with than the E86M. It's also more composed over bumpy roads too. I know they may be too stiff for some peoples tastes, especially if you are going to rack up a lot of mileage, but the 2-3k pa I do it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I've driven the 996.1 which was the most uncompromising of all of them and I thought it was fine. I can't afford the 991 unfortunately - that engine is an absolute peach - just listen to it in the video. I'll have to make do with an older one when the time is right.

Steve I think possibly the older one gets the less likely we are to compromise on comfort, my 991S is a hard/ish ride, also I did think the 991GT3 was a good purchase because the depreciation is lower and with a private purchase this matters and at £100k I thought it was a gift compared to what it can do.

I understand the GT3RS is out this year which is even more deprecation proof and I may just risk it again because I'd have very little to lose

I agree with all of that Graham.

It's the depreciation argument that swings it for me too. Did you see that 996.1 in the link I posted earlier in the thread? Up for £59k when it would've cost £76k new 15 years ago. They are such great value for what you get I think.
I agree on the age thing. That's why I'm so keen to get one soon...before I get too old. Those birthdays keep coming round faster and faster!

The RS will be as near as bomb-proof on residuals as it gets. A glance at the 996/997 3RS's is a pointer. They've hardly lost anything at all.

pvr - sorry for a bit of thread hijack but as you weren't doing the test drives until tomorrow I didn't think you'd mind! :)

With the weather forecast, it looks like a swimming drive :D

They just called to confirm the line up, and to remind me (for the third time) that they want to see the paper side of my license. They must have been forewarned then as I have had this argument before where I did not see a reason to give them the paper part (which will be obsolete soon anyway).

Tomorrow is to explore the models really, as I have never driven any of them.

Driven the CS PDK and a Cayman manual (no 911 manual on site).

As I expected, the PDK is smooth etc, but drives identical to the X5 which takes my enjoyment away. The manual, even though it was a Cayman, was so much nicer to drive. Other than the gearbox, the Cayman was a horrible drive - the Z is a much nicer place to be in and it was very low in power. The sports exhaust option on that car was a waste, you could not tell the difference. It was good to have driven it just so I know what it is like, but I cut that drive short as it was not worth spending time in there after I tested the gearbox only

The 911 on the other hand was a whole different type of animal, i.e. really the grown up brother. It also had the sports exhaust which really is a must and very, very intoxicating. As I said, the PDK was not for me, great on the track no doubt and also faster, but just no involvement at all. Besides the speed and noise it was just like driving my X5. I know you will lose a bit more value when you sell it as a manual but to me it would be the price I would have to pay yo enjoy the drive more. Loved the sun roof (did not open that for obvious reasons but that must be even nicer with that exhaust note).

i like the dealer concept where they send you to a track in your spec car to get used to it, nice touch.

The required option list is shocking though, nothing is standard except for the satnav - so no flimper spec 911 then :D

They had a beautiful 991 Turbo in the showroom, I would have that in a flash ...

Pleased you enjoyed the experience overall & we share a very similar feeling regards the three pedal set up  :driving:

Everytime I get in my car I want to smash the auto gearbox to bits!!! so I am pleased you wont make the same mistake as me!
