Good Deal?

Evening All,

I've provisionally agreed to buy a 2010 E89 Coupe, Black Paintwork on Red Leather, 89K miles, comfort access, sport mode, 4 owners, full history BMW & Specialist (serviced every year), recent major service over £600, recent new power supply box £675 (is this for the roof?), will be newly MOT'd for the sale.

Agreed £6900 - is this a decent price, I'm thinking it is?
Is there anything specific to this model I should be asking to avoid expensive repairs later?

Appreciate any advice as a first time Zed buyer (though I do have a F10)

Darren

Hi and welcome Darren
Not sure which model you have? E89 convertible? Engine and spec?

Not a bad price at all for the car, seen cheaper but that is at the lower end for certain but only you can judge if it is worth it for yourself.

OK Thanks, I just wanted to utilise what I'm sure is a wealth of knowledge in the forum

Congratulations it looks very nice, great colour combination,
Thanks, just waiting for him to confirm when the MOT is done. He says he's had a new power supply box fitted, is this likely to be for the roof?

He’s used vague terminology, that could be for anything. The 2.5l engines in those models can run forever if serviced regularly & sound nice as well.

Welcome, maybe a touch high with the miles but not much and you may feel the £600 service compensates. No idea what the power box replacement is.

Will it have an MOT or an advisory free MOT?

What’s the tyres like? Brand/tread/run flats or not? If run flats you’re likely to want to change.

Check or ask what’s the date stamp on the terminal on the battery to see if you’re going to have to factor in a replacement as Z4’s don’t like weak/old batteries. About 5 yrs seems to be about norm for changing.

Preventative, the salmon relays in the boot at £30 for the pair makes sense too if not changed.

All good points which I'll confirm with him. I didn't want anything with more than 70K but it has been serviced every year by BMW and BMW Indies so it should still be good. That was really my main point for asking, does the price match the mileage. If they are run flats they wont be on long, I've got them on my F10 and can't wait for them to need replacing. Thanks

I can't think what else he could mean when he refers to a power supply box. My son's mate has had one and he said the roof motor is pricey to replace if it goes pop. I'll have to confirm with him, Thanks a lot

The electronic water pump’s can be on thin ice once over 70k miles, they’re just over £200 but easy enough to change.

Anything less than 110,000 miles is below average for age of car. You might want to factor in a replacement/repair of windscreen in the not too distant future for peace of mind, together with front and rear registration plates. All in all, seems a good buy IMHO

Ye that's what I thought. It's below average for a regular saloon but maybe slightly high for this type of car. It's only done 500 miles this year, I think the furlough situation hasn't been kind to the guy. Owner before him had it for a year and he did just under 3K. He's changing the plates so I'll have to see what the new MOT says about the windscreen, it's been advised on the last 2 or 3 MOT's.

Have the water pumps been improved on these E89. We haven't heard of any fail on the forum.
My car has 89k 23i and runs sweet. Just do regular 5k oil changes.
By now as well we know all the problem areas.
What amazes me these cars like mine are coming up to 12 years old and looked after are like new cars.

Looks good value .Just look in the boot ,under the foam as there are lots of electrics that you don’t want swimming in water.Buying from a dealer you will have a warranty ,so what’s not to like.As others have said budget for a new battery if it hasn’t been changed.

Iirc wasn’t there a recall for problems with the power cable and fuse box on many BMWs perhaps that is what he is talking about
