Good deal or bad deal

I want to sell my 10 plate white E89 Z4 2.3i S Drive (see the for sale section for it's full spec) and my local dealership are trying to tempt me with a fully loaded white brand new 325i coupe sport plus diesel. They say that the 3 series amounts to 39,000 ish in total. They are offering me £20,000 for my car which is financed with BMW and £4000 in negative equity. To help get me out of the negative equity situation they are trying to do me a deal.
At a rate of 3.8% apr (yes that is correct, but i'm not sure over how many years sorry, probably 4 i will need to check tomorrow) they say that the monthly payments with a £1000 deposit will be £600.
Does this sound like a good deal or not please?
My brain tells me to stick with what I have got and keep paying the £490 a month that I am currently paying, but I am desparate to change the car. They is absolutely nothing wrong with my car, I love it and it's like new with only 4300 miles on the clock. I simply get bored after 16 month and tend to change my cars at that stage.

Can't you part-ex against a 1-2 year old model instead?

You might not get as good a finance deal, but you'll avoid losing 30-50% AGAIN in the first couple of years.

I only ever want to buy new as I don't like the idea of someone driving / abusing a car before i own it. Stupid I know, but that's me unfortunately.

With a new 3 series already out and the coupe coming soon, I can't help but think that in a couple of years time you will be in an even worse situation with negative equity.

If you don't want a used car I would stick with what you have, it is a cracking car

x2 ... Also can't understand how you can be bored with a car you've only driven 4,300 miles in 16 months :?

That said, I can understand wanting a new car as I had company cars that were new or nearly new for years...

Given you've only driven 4,300 miles in 16 months why on earth are you considering getting a diesel? It should be petrol all the way, the bigger the better.

I'd sell privately, rent a car for a few weeks since you don't seem to go very far, and go and test drive a few things first. If you happened to then like the 325d, I'm sure you'd still be able to get it on the terms they've given you.

The only reason i am considering the diesel is that my local dealership are doing the deal of 3.8% APR on diesel 3 series cars only. I would never ever consider a diesel car normally.

The next 3 series coupé, which will be called the 4 series, will launch in mid 2014, so two years time.......if you keep that car for 16 months too, you will just be in time for BMW to offer some spectacular deals to shift the old 3 series stock before launch, decimating used car values and you will be in the same place again.

and ouch I have learnt that lesson well, stick with what you want or choose something else, a design 2-3 years old, perhaps an A5, or a E class coupé?

£39K for a 3 series Coupe sounds like a terrible price.

And whilst it's nice to only buy new (I've only ever had 2 new cars in my life.....and one of those was a complete lemon!) I'm now at the point of spending my money on other things, like paying off my mortgages rather than depreciation....

The car I bought before my Zed had lost.......wait for......£41K in 11 months from new before I bought it! I would not have been able to afford it new...

I now 2 X 9 year old cars which are doing the job just fine, not perfect cars but cost less to buy combined than depreciation I was suffering in a single year until very recently.......

I'd stick with what you have given how little you drive.

Car dealers pray for customers like you!
As do second-hand car buyers: without you guys out there buying the new cars and taking the depreciation hit, guys like me wouldn't be able to buy the cars we want - keep up the good work

Very few 1-2 year old cars are used and abused. I'm sure yours wasn't. Plus any gremlins were sorted within that period.

Your going to take a big hit again.
Secondly your buying a diesel which you do not want only because it's a good finance deal? Don't do it.

Couldn't put it better myself.

I'd stay with what you have! In 4000 miles you wont have got a full appreciation of the car yet! I stopped buying new 3 cars ago as I was just being stupid on the hit I was getting when selling! I'm very glad I didn't pay new for my 35i during the present climate!

If you buy new you need at least 3 years out of the car otherwise you may as well through money down the toilet! I bet your dealer loves you!! :P

Make sure you test drive a diesel 3 series for a day before even considering buying one! Very different driving experience!

I just called the salesman at the garage to say that the deal did not make financial sense and that i would be keeping my car for the time being. I made the call before i read your post, but thanks anyway. And thanks to everyone else who kindly offered their opinion.

I new myself yesterday that the deal made no sense, but i really want to change cars, hence my considering to commit financial stupidity.
