Good and Bad News

So i test drove a potential z4 yesterday and it was the first time i have driven one, and well it was amazing and i loved it...... :D

The car is almost perfect and would be amazing, and i am all ready to go and buy early next week......

After calling the insurance company, they have now decided that the insurance is 3k, not the £1900 that was initially quoted.

At 20, is it worth paying 3K in insurance, bearing in mind that i will be paying at least 1500-2000 for anything else suitable.

Not unless your loaded mate. It depends what your disposable income is I guess. I'd Imagine the holidays you could spend that on. I'd pick something less high on their list for a few years, build up no claims and then get one.

Also depends on your priorities at the moment. e.g. Do you have your own house? If not 3 years in a Z has just paid your deposit.

assuming you are a young lad and not a young lady, i think 3K is a very good quote for insurance

I personally couldn't bring myself to pay it, especially as you'll probably be forking-out for any minor/medium damage you do incur yourself (high excess? plus probably unwise to claim anyway if you want to have half a chance at insuring it next year)

Add it all up and you're paying a fortune for not a lot.

Sadly, I'd put up with a lesser car for a couple of years or so and save the money towards a newer Zed when the insurance is a bit less of a rip-off

Disposable income is high as i still live at home, although wanting to start a buy to let empire soon :)

I can afford this, its just the pure expense of paying 3 thousand pounds, just to insure the car......and yes im male :D

Which model was that a quote for? If it's a 2 litre it's expensive but at your age that's what you'll pay. If you want a 2 seater roadster would an MX5 be cheaper to insure?

I would hate to part with that amount of money for insurance. Have you included parents as named drivers to try and bring the price down?

Tbh 3k for insurance on any z4 doesnt sound that bad, a lad at work around the same age is paying that for a 1.2 corsa sxi, i guess its just up to you whether you want to fork out quite a substantial amount of money on something you hopefully wont need to use.
Like others have said id get something cheap for a couple of years and save the money so you can buy a newer z when you come to buy :driving:

It completely depends on what money you have coming in each month, my general rule was not to spend more than a months gross wages on insurance, and how much is it on the value of the car? If it's a 10k Z then it's not worth it, if it's a £30k Z then you could sort of justify it, maybe...

But only you can answer it, it all depends on how much you earn and how much else you need for other things

Personally, I'd get something else like others say here - still something fun, but something with less ridiculous insurance. That way, you get a car that is fast etc now compared to what you are used to - and then can still upgrade to a z and do it again! .... is there some logic there?

It would me sick paying that kind off money for insurance . My daughters boyfreind has a MR2 T Bar, an older model ,however, still fun , he is 21 pays around £1100, he has just given me this link, http://mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2469&sid=51aaaaf77bfed007d7f10bce6776aae2.

Get your house/flat first then the car...

Don't waste your money on cars at that age.... you'll live to regret it IMO.

you only live once, How much is the Z worth? if its less then 10K, just get 3rd party insurance, and risk it.

The most you will have to pay is repair to your own car or 10K for full replacement.
I've had mine since i was 23 and have not regretted one cent of it. (I did pay over 40K for mine tho  )

Depends how much you are earning as it's all relative, but I think £3k for insurance is alot, not sure what an "average" car would cost you though? But may be worth looking for something with lower insurance group for now and re think in a year or two after pushing the no claims bonus down

Only you can answer that question. Personally cars always came further down the priority list for me - behind owning a house, enjoying decent social life, having nice holidays etc... Doesn't mean I don't love the zed, but if circumstance changed it'd go before any of the above.

So if cars are your big priority, go for it, otherwise I reckon £3k goes a long way towards a deposit on a flat / loads of nights out / 2 weeks in the sun etc... and is hard to justify

Good luck either way

don't just get a house, get a wife, kids, cats, dogs etc, settle down. Then 1 day when you are going through a mid life crisis you can get a zed

oh shoot, thats what i did

Head or Heart?

Head = cheaper car and save.

Heart = Zed and to hell with it!

Only you can decide but I, along with a probably quite a few others on here, would advise one thing but probably end up doing do the other.

Well after a long conversation with the insurance company, they have decided that they can insure me on strictly a 2003 2.5 but cannot be the SE, so basicly a bog standard, and has for some crazy reason to be an auto.......

But the insurance is 1800....... I feel that a 2.5 auto would still be great fun ? And worth losing the manual box in order to still own a z4 and pay what i would call a very reasonable figure.....

Thoughts ???? :(

I do have another post, so sorry if this is not allowed but is a different Topic..
As stated previously i was asking advice on wether the 3k insurance was worth getting the zed ....

Following a phone call with the insurance company they will insure me for 1800 providing its an auto and a few other specifications etc...

My question is, will i lose out that much ? For the sake of £1200 to me it seems like the more sensible option, as at the end of the day, i still get a two seater roadster with a 2.5 litre engine......

Whats everyones thoughts......... Need replys as time is very minimal to make decision.... :headbang:
