Gone back to tvr t350...

Still there seem to be plenty of TVR owners on Pistonheads which is free - in fact I think it was originally created by/for them.

Wish I hadn't come back to this thread though - what a wonderful car!
Yes, there was always a very active TVR community on PH. I used to join the local runs in my Fiat Coupe. Read what you like into that scenario.

I had V8 powered TVR's for a decade. They never let me down and started on the button. Unreliability is down to neglect -no different to any other car.
Having said that, I would only go back to a V8. Not sure I'd want to buy a speed 6 powered car. Would be interested to hear the original poster's opinion on this.

I loved my Cerbera 4.5 for the 6 years I had it. It was mostly a royal pain in the backside though to be fair.

Nice looking motor. I'd be worried about spending much of my downtime on the hard shoulder.
Is this a view thats unfounded, though? On a scale of TVR reliability, are these a 1 or a 10?

I've always fancied a Tam or T350, but never quite made the jump and now they are on the price rise and you can't seem to find a 4.5 Cerbie for love no money.

Personally my TVR has been the most reliable car I've had and it bludgeons the Z4C in to the dust on that front. However when they were being produced, especially the S6 engined cars, it depends on what day your car came out of the factory. A mate switched his Chim 500 in for a Tuscan and he made it 2 weeks before it went back with engine issues. Out for 4.5 months before he got it back for a mighty 4 weeks and it went again.

These days most of the S6 cars have had a Power or St8Six rebuild and are all pretty sorted.

Such a shame the company folded.

I have been tempted to let the TVR go of late, but it will be a hard choice between it and the Z4C.

PH was created by (genuinely) "my mate Dave" as a TVR S series group which expanded into other models and then got bigger. Dave has a cracking S4 in grey, which I remember him hitting a the only post in a field one PH trip out. He sold the site and brand to Haymarket a while back and tried to start up "Blatters" in a new format, but it never quite caught on.

love a t350 and that one looks great!

A TVR is on my future shopping list for sure, s3's are a very tempting value proposition at the moment! i did have a wobble a couple of weeks ago when i seriously considered changing the z4c for a griffith...

As a weekend car, you should go for it. Buy a nice Griff 500 and you will be hooked.

I feel like I haven't yet had a chance to enjoy the z4 what with lockdown and such otherwise i probably would! my aunt had a couple of brand new griffs back in the day and i think they left a bit of an impression on 5 year old me!... the biggest put off for me is actually the engine, having had a "hot" rover v8 in a land rover it was a total nightmare and the standard one that is in there now isnt much better!

Loved my S3 when I had it. You'll find it a little slow compared to the Z4 though. The Cologne is a bit underwhelming. The V8S is the one to have.

I,ve had the pleasure of owning 5 Griffiths and none have given me any worries of overheating no matter what the outside temperature is. Proper maintenance is key to reliability with TVR's of all types.

Totally agree with you. No real issues in 9 years of ownership. I must say when I bought my Tamora after having a Chim and a Griff I started using Str8six for servicing etc. Jason and his team are top class and my speed six engine never gave me any grief.

I like the idea of the v6 for the cost saving, i quite fancy doing some sprint/hillclimbs, having a tvr as a weekend/sprint car, the longer term plan would be to ditch the cologne for something a bit more modern... v8's are a bit too close in price to griffs for me! but then i worry if i had something of that value I wouldn't be so brave against the clock!!!

I think its more of a thing in my head than based on any actual facts! in my rover v8 experiences overheating was the least of my problems!

I guess they are cheaper overall. Th V8S chassis is more braced though and IIRC the brakes etc are better. There were a few 24V Cosworth conversions done which were pretty cool. I considered it, but was then in a position to buy a Chimera, which expanded to Pre-cat Griffith. As a 23 year old the Griff was way cool. Ended up keeping it for 17 years!

As you say, pre cats are great with the special exhaust note. Had a 4.3 Griff many moons ago, which was my first one and even donned it with the devils reg. K666 GRF.

I'm a big fan of Jason and his team at Str8six as well. They did the rebuild on my Cerbera and their attention to detail is awesome.
