today i changed oil and spark plugs on my lads golf - sure he should be able to do this sort of thing himself by now urghhhhh

golf is burning oil, don't think it will pass immisions test next time MOT is due urghhhhhhhh

I think this level of basic maintenance (oil filter, air filter, oil, wheel change, washer fluid, radiator top-up, etc.) should be part of the driving test.

Pity that any new car requires a computer to reset the service indicator though.

in theory its all very easy, but in reality it can be a big job, sometimes just removing the oil filter can be harder than it sounds

I've never come across one yet that has failed to move after being subjected to my advanced bodgers' technique of hammering a lengthy screwdriver through it :D

That takes me back when i used to do my own oil changes,it worked everytime

it amazes me how tricky things are these days, it took me all afternoon to replace the spark plugs, everything is so hard to get to

Oil Filter wrench!

Get a machune mart three finger with 1/2 " Centre drive jobbie - Works a treat never failed me yet!
It squashes the can a bit but as it drives thro the axis of the can it twist off no problem.
