Going to be a dad! Zed out, what car to replace it?

Obviously im massively excited and making the most of the zed while i can! Good news on both counts though as I've managed to keep the zed in the family by agreeing to hand it to my bro!
Whilst I've got a bit of time yet I'm starting to think about possible replacements. I don't want 2 cars so it's got to be fun, safe and reliable but also cheaper to run and buy than the zed. I may return to M driving in a couple of years but the wallet could do with a break and I suspect I'll be too busy/tired looking after the wee one for early morning drives and meets!
Top of the preliminary list is a 130i/5 dr or an Audi sportback. As I'm in London and I'm not giving up just yet I think an estate is a bit OTT. If I could afford a new s4 my attitude would be different :) outsiders are the skoda octavia vrs or a wrx wagon for fun but head says a decent a2 could be all the car I need...any thoughts on the above or alternative suggestions? Budget 10k max prefer around 8k so I can't go too new or low miler. Prefer petrol cars for city driving. Cheers all!

Well done mate! Congratulations!!

Get a Range Rover Sport! Job done!

Yeah I know....but ton hell with what car....you're gonna be a dad!! Woo hoo!! You only look about 14!!!

That's great news, Tim

Well, not the having to change the car part... I know you have sort of ruled it out, but friends that have gone the small estate route are the envy of friends with smaller cars - even with just 1 child to cater for it make life a lot easier. Also it makes for a handy surf wagon!

If you get another BMW you can still come on the track days :driving:

Congratulations

How about A3 2.0 TFSI Quattro, should be able to get an 06 for £10k, or maybe a Golf Gti. Think the BMW 1 series is good but having owned an A3 before my last Zed I do prefer the Audi.

Parenthood is definitely a game changer, can't wait to usher in the next generation! Lots of fun to be had teaching them nonsense in time honoured fashion. Will be taking them down to the pistonhead meets if they show any interest in motors!
