Go-to Tyres

Hi All,

I’m needing new tyres (front) for the ZED and wondered if there was a go-to range or brand that stands out?

Looking at general UK road use. (No track days.)

It’s a 2011 E89 SDrive 30i.

Cheers.

Such a generalised question…are you focussed on..

Budget
Tyre life
Ride comfort
Noise
Wet weather performance
Dry weather performance

Oh blimey - You live and learn :).

All round/year use. I'd like to think mostly dry summer weather use (but who knows in the UK!!). Still would use it in the wet and cold winter days of course.

Noise consideration mostly - I'd hope new shocks and springs would tick the ride comfort box.

Currently has Pirelli P Zero on the rears with good tread.

Thanks B21.

That gives you noise figures..however the differences are small

I remember seeing that a half worn Michelin would perform almost as new, whereas the Bridgestone (?) it was tested against dropped off performance as the tread dropped.

The Michelin also lasted longer/wore slower. Something else to consider!

(I went for Primacy 5s on my daily Volvo when I replaced them the other week)

If noise is important then Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 6, Pirelli tend to start off well and as the wear and age get harder and nosier (well in my experience and admittedly my experience is with one set that I replaced as soon I could)

I have Kumho Ecsta PS71 non runflats on the back and Bridgestone Potenza RF on the front at the moment, I also have the 30i, only had it just over a month. The Kumohs are faitly new on the back and I'll soon be changing the fronts to the same, the Bridgestones have plenty of tread but I hate the run flats. I have read a lot of good reviews regarding the Kumho Ecsta PS71 so will go with the same. At least I'll have a matching set all round then and get rid of the RFs. My car is generally just a weekend car, though it will go out a lot more and longer journeys in the Summer.

I put Kumho Ecsta PS71s on my old F33. 275/19 rear and 235/19 front. Good tyres but I found they are very soft and wear pretty quickly. Unlike Bridgestone RFTs, which never wear down as they are made of concrete.

After acquiring my 2009 6 months ago I went with square set up 245 45 17 and added Generals Altmax rt45, quiet smooth ride and and good handling. High rated on Tirerack at an affordable price.
