‘Go to’ DIY Hood Relocation Guide

Morning all,

I’ve searched the forum but can’t find a definitive step-by-step guide on relocating the hood motor from its stock location to the boot. I.e what tools and other materials are required to complete the job?

I’d like to do this myself but some guides state the hood should be removed and some mention you can actually sit in the boot to gain access. Either way, none mention if other materials such as additional cabling or connections are required. I’d like to pull out all the required tools and purchase any additional required materials to complete the task in advance.

Does anyone have a full step-by-step guide with pictures - I’m looking to do this over the coming weekend.

Thanks

If you live in Manchester I am guessing you are probably quite close to Ducklakeview who will do it for around £80. it is a no brainer, get him to do it. If you know exactly what you are doing, are small and left handed it isn't that difficult ( I have watched Ducklakeview do quite a few and he can do it in 20 minutes). But if you don't know how to do it, are not small and/or right handed it isn't easy.

It is done from within the boot, motor is on the left hand side. When you get in the boot if you get your hand down to the motor you can touch it fine but you can't get your head in to see what you are doing. If you get your head in, there is no room for your arm. I generally do everything myself because I like the challenge of it and hate to admit defeat. In the summer, to upgrade the audio system I had the entire boot trim out plus the entire rear trim (none of which is necessary by the way but it does make it easier), spent hours trying to fathom out how to safely detach the motor/plastic casing and admitted defeat in the end. Hated being crunched up on my back in the boot (slightly claustraphobic). In the end much to my dismay I admitted defeat.

Pay the £80, ducklakeview has done hundreds and its like shelling peas for him.

Hi, I agree with Magicarcher, I had mine done with Ducklakeview, no problem he makes it look easy but that is only if you know exactly what you are doing and you are working blind because you cannot see any of the fixings / brackets.
I have read where some have tried and damaged the hydraulic pipes which are then a major job to replace.

In my mind its a no brainer for the price (which may have gone up) go to Ducklakeview, sit back and relax.

Better check the cost with mike, I got a quote off him just before Xmas for the same thing and it was nearly double that. Still a lot cheaper than a new motor though!

Here's a link to a guide from another forum, might be of use.

Wow if it’s £160 for 20 mins of someone’s time, I think I’ll give it a go myself. £80 I’d be happy to pay.

I’m left handed so maybe that’ll come in handy. :D

Have a go yourself, I did mine a couple days ago without any issues. Basic tools, took me a few hours but all good

Anything I should look out for particularly or any specific tools I might need if I decide to have a go myself?

Ducklakeview quoted me 140 that's with zforum member discount and about 40 mins to do it. Not decided yet but I like a challenge so may have a crack myself. I'm left handed and only 5'8 so may be a bit more easily accessed in the small boot space

Only issue I had was the time it took to pick at the tape which holds the motor case together, it’s a fabric tape of some kind, just kept at it with a pointy screwdriver it comes off eventually. Then pull the top away from bottom section. Once that’s done you see the motor. Home straight then..

I think I will. Did you do it all from the boot or remove some of the passenger side trim/water seals from behind the passenger seat?

Any words of wisdom or tricks you worked out along the way?

Thanks

Did it all from in the boot. Just take your time, if your have a small mirror use that to see the blind spots,

One of the reasons I chose DLV to do mine was that he is able to deal with other issues comprehensively. In my case he took the whole pump apart and got it going again (hadn't been working for a couple of years) - so was not really a 40min job. I understand there is some sensitivity around advertising services; but in my case I was satisified.
