I use a gently-maintained rev match when pootling along, but when you're pressing on, there isn't time (amid pressing the brake pedal and clutch) to have your right foot sitting over on the throttle pedal. It's all over in quarter of a second or so, so a stab on the throttle is more than sufficient for a swift and slick shift. Watch pedal box footage of any racer for inspiration

Edit: An example:

Stab and go, my friend
That's a sequential gearbox on your video which requires a different technique. Without going into too much detail, I suggested staying on the accelerator once you have the speed you want and the lower gear you want. If the racer in your video did it better he might have passed some of the cars in front.

[ref]road warrior[/ref] Well as The Joker, the ease with which a forum war can be started should have been no surprise to you :P

However you will be pleased to know that i dont blip the throttle any more when i stop the engine to fill up the carburettor reservoir anymore..

That made me laugh and choke on my beer :D

so..
i have always used asda fuel, but prompted by the lack of blip

Tbf when I had the backbox deleted on my previous Z4, I too would blip the throttle on changing down a gear or two. Simply for the noise it would make .

Well I'll have to confess I often do it - drop down a couple of gears with a blip before starting to brake.

Just because I can - and my car has a custom cat-back exhaust thanks to a previous owner so it's worth it! Thank you previous owner.

One day I might grow up, but there's no rush.

Must confess, I do the same, and it always makes me smile.

Good to see you are enjoying your 30i, even if it isn't the one I looked at!

Yes, loving it.
Perhaps controversial, but I asked myself, would red be my first choice, and the answer was no.
But yes, am enjoying the car, plenty of grunt and just love the fact it gives me the best of both worlds , being a coupe or a convertible.
You need to try one.
Don’t think you’d be disappointed 😀

Well in over 40 years of car ownership I've never had a convertible, so I'm not sure it's my thing! :?

And I do love Red cars, although I've only had 2! First was a MK2 Escort RS2000 back in the 80s, then recently I had an Imola Red E46 325ti Compact.

So if I do move on from my E86, an Imola Red Z4MC looks like the most likely option! Just need to check for lost cash down the back of the sofa now.

But as you say the 3 litre N52 engine does have plenty of grunt - even in the E90 330i I just got as a daily! :)
