So, joining the A13 today and took the long slip road when some absolute nobber in a Transit Connect decides to cut from the carriage way over the chevrons to undercut traffic... The result, what can only be described as a rock being flung up at my car!!!

Luckily, only the windscreen caught, but so close to being worse... Still not happy though!!!

Ouch! - still, as you say, lucky it was the windscreen rather than the bodywork....

What a Pratt........if he cut across the Chevrons with solid white lines it was illegal
Shame you didn't have a camera recording it. You could have got his number and possibly persued it

What an idiot.... Similar thing happened to a guy at work last week except he needed a new headlight, and the bonet and wing resprayed on his company 3 series.

:x What a jockey! :x

Parts of the A13 are a nighmare for stuff like this. It must be due to so many lorries and trucks going up and down it all day, everyday.

Something similar happened to my mate on his way to work, again A13.

A HOUSE BRICK flew out the back of one of those rubble lorries! Dented the front wing and the bonnet. Ouch.

The exact same thing happened to me with some "Turbo Nutter Ba$tard" joining the motorway.
One thing I will say, when you have your new windscreen fitted INSIST on a Pukka BMW rubber seal.
I had to have my windscreen taken out and put back in again, the after market ones are crap!

My first thoughts when i saw the picture (didn't read any of the text...) was "Thank f**k that didn't hit the bodywork..."

Have since read the text... Glad you're OK.

All you can do is console yourself with the facts that you weren't hurt and it's easily and cheaply fixed.

I can only reflect SUUNTOBOB's advice. You must make sure that you get the proper OEM BMW windscreen surround. I insisted on a new screen for mine before I would take delivery and the garage fitted an aftermarket surround which distorted and split almost instantly. The only solution was to have it removed and a BMW surround fitted, fortunately paid for by the garage after some "discussion".

Thanks for all the advice regarding the surround, I will make sure I get that...

Apologies for the strong language in the title, was a little peeved this morning by idiocy!! I shouted some choice words that would make a sailor blush and gesticulated, but in reality, as always, it achieves very little. I was feeling pretty worried until I got to work and inspected the damage, to say I was relieved to find it was only the windscreen damaged was an understatement!

Having sat in the work car park for the day the crack has grown in the heat and on driving home noticed that the crack actually comes through to the inside. Can feel it with finger nail... I thought windscreens were meant to have a laminate layer on the inside to prevent this?

Damn lucky in the first instance. Get the screen sorted asap though. Sounds like it's one Kent pothole away from becoming a passenger.

Yup will be sorted ASAP... Will be driving the smart car until it's sorted, still two seats and rear wheel drive but no where near as much fun :(

The A13 during the rush hour is a cross between Mad Max and Banger racing - horrible road

Agreed.

Only way to stay away from trouble unfortunately is to sit in the outside lane very close to the car in front.

If you leave even a few metres gap, someone will pull out and possibly hit you.

Have to go past this particular junction every day as I work in the same place as m lechim and it's truly awful. The short slip road bit causes all sorts of problems.

I went through two windscreens in the space of a month recently because of massive stone hits - fortunately no bodywork damage to my car either, but it's not just annoying it's bloody scary too. I think the laminate stops it shattering rather than cracking - so it won't fall apart on you at least.

When the fitter arrives make sure you check visually that it's a BMW part, and remember they refer to it as trim, not a seal. 'Confusion' can be caused as I found out last time, after being assured it was OEM and finding out he's misheard me and/or I'd used the wrong terminology when confirming verbally. The trim should be in a plastic bag with a BMW part number, and the ends that sit at the top left and right of the windscreen should be perfectly straight and smooth, not even slightly 'wavy'.

Glad you're ok but as an aside it's part of the reason I always drive my open top cars with the side windows up in anything over a 30 zone. Had a pal in a classic mg who was hit on the temple by a largish stone (inch cube) almost knocked him unconscious, lots of blood and a very emergency stop
