GM5

Hi,

What is the best/cheapest/safest way to fix the GM5 modul?
I cannot unlock my passengerdoor by key or button - only by the handle.
By the way, my passengerdoor is in the RIGHT side :P

It could be a relay which is relatively cheap but there’s a couple of places that appear on eBay that will check and repair it for a reasonable price if you don’t want to mess about with it.

My father had it done a couple of years ago , there and back in less than a week for about £60 I think.

I used this guy just recently. Had it back within 3 days and all central locking issues are cured.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111191303651

I had this same issue. I could feel and hear that the lock actuator was TRYING to unlock the door, but it didn't have enough power.

My brand new lock actuator arrived tonight. I'll probably give it a whirl on Friday but it could still be a GM5 issue. Feedback on forums was cloudy so I went down this route. If the new actuator doesn't resolve the issue I'll return it to BMW and send my GM5 module off. Several places in the UK offer relay replacement for £35.

I used the service as suggested by big andrea
Back in under a week
I had the same issues you described
Sorted it all out and easy fix to do as simple to get out
If it is not the module he only charges admin fee.
Worth doing before spending more on new parts you may not need

I've just been out to the car and plugged my brand new door lock actuator into the connector. Locked and unlocked the car a few times and the new actuator worked perfectly. However...I then plugged the old "broken" actuator back in and that one also worked perfectly!

I'll fully refit the old actuator to the door tomorrow and see what happens :tumbleweed:

Update: My original lock actuator has decided to work now, so I've refitted it. I don't expect it to last forever, but I also don't fancy chucking £60 at a door lock actuator and/or £35 at a GM5 repair if it's deciding to work now  I found the lock actuator a quick and easy job so I don't mind if I have to remove it again in a few months' time. Hey ho!
