GM5 question

I think I remember reading somewhere that the GM5 is specifically coded to that car only- am I correct?

I don't think the GM5 is specifically coded to the VIN. I installed one in my 2003 E85 from a 2007 E85 and everything worked with no errors. Of course I did go in and code it for my preference like 1 touch windows, DRL's, etc.
