GM5 - Central Locking

Hi Guys,

My central locking isnt working with buttons or key in door. Started with locking fine but unlocking especially passenger door.

Now central locking doesnt work I have use key in drivers door to unlock and unlock manually passenger from inside car.

Im pretty sure this is a problem with GM5 module unless anyone can advise otherwise and from what I've seen there are 2 relays on the module to replace to solve this.

Is anyone aware of if it could be something else, if not where I can get relays or if its hard to replace relays if anyone here does a service to fix the gm5 module?

I also have an issue with driver window switch where I can't control passneger window and with driver window I can put it down but not always back up.

Thanks,
Zowen.

You're on the money with the GM5 at fault. Sometimes you can have a faulty door actuator but this sounds more like the GM5.

There's a company which fixes them on ebay. It's around £60 and you send your GM5 to them, they fix it and it's returned to you. Be mindful that they only fix what you report to be broken. They don't service the complete board and give it a health check, so to speak.

You could buy a second hand one and they are around £70.

The window problem could be the window switch in the drivers door. Does the window operate with the passenger switch?

Anyway strip down the window switch to the circuit board and clean all the button contacts with isopropanal alcohol. Also clean the black carbon contacts on the rubber pad. When disassembling the back off the window switch have the window buttons facing down. It'll save you trying to work out how to put the bits of plastic back to make the switches work again. You'll understand when you take it apart :D

I'd try to fix the window problem before sending off the GM5.

Yes! Passenger switch works fine, I had a feeling it was either loose wire or the switch as if you got just the right angle you could get it to work and the passenger works.

Do you think cleaning pads could allow Passenger to work or will I end up needing a new switch as the driver has recently stopped working but Passenger has never worked over the past year.

I have made quite a few window switches work again. The window switch is in the perfect position to get wet from rain when you open the door and it also works well as a drip tray for the cupholder if you have those.

These window switches have had 20 years of abuse now so a little spring clean inside will help. Sometimes the switch looks perfect clean inside but a clean seems to help

You can use contact cleaner if you have that but don't use wd40.

GM5 modules repair trusted and used by many members on here is Mervyn in Harrogate who trades as Autoelectron on eBay. You post the module to him and it's repaired and sent back in a couple of days. Usual repair is fitting new relays to the PCB.
