Glovebox damped opening

The glovebox on my Z4 no longer opens in a nice, damped manner. You lift the handle and it falls straight down. It's like being in a Fiesta!

Any ideas?

Mine did this,

On the right hand side of the caompartment you'll see a damper. The bottom of it clips in to a hole in the glovebox cover, OK so it barely clips in so any weight in the glovebox at all and it pops out of the mounting hole.

No dramas just push it back in

Just don't open it. I must have opened mine twice in 18 months. Once when I first got the car to see if the previous owner had left anything interesting in there (which he hadn't) and then again about 6 months ago when I bought a nice big piece of smoked Wensleydale from Sainsbury's and thought it might be the right shape to fit in. Turns out it was too big though.

the damper can also "go".. and a replacement can be obtained for not much from a stealer..
I think I've got the box lying around in the garage if you need the part number.

I lied - it was in the kitchen cupboard!

here you go: 51168224806
I paid £11.58 inc vat for it :)

I do like my cheese.

It's also how to access the fuse box I think? Remove the damper, unclip the back of the glovebox, allow it to drop all the way down, and hey presto! Fuses!

That's correct :)

Refitted the damper I never knew I had! Glove box will no longer smash my passengers in the knees again! Thanks forum!

By the way, having not seen how it was in in the first place i spent 5 min trying to put it back in wrong before realising it was actually really easy.

For anyone as stupid as myself, the square base of the damper fits in to the square slot on the glove box. Don't try and fit one side of the tab in, :-)

Finally got round to sorting this out today, much easier in the daylight than inside the garage. Thanks for the help guys and girls!
