Gloss black rims it is....PIC added!

Its just a poor picture. Black wheels rock!
IMO they can work - as can any colour wheel - on the right car!

For me, there's just a little too much 'going on' there - if the roof was still black, the black wheels would tie-in with the roof and the black badges and make a design statement, as it is, the mixture of red roof, black badges and black wheels just leave the whole car looking a little 'confused'

Jonny even realised this himself earlier in this thread...

Would love black but not with the red roof so i think a slightly darker gun metal to mine without the polished face tho :)
... then changed his mind... :headbang:

I think this is an example of a number of ideas, each of which would be OK in isolation, not gelling together as a coherent image.

NB This is intended to be constructive criticism as JE has put a lot of time, effort and money into his car but, unless he starts to think more holistically about the overall package and how each element works with the others, there's a real risk of it becoming a parody rather than a project.

Personally not a fan. I really don't like black wheels at the best of times, but I feel there's too much going with this car. It's a riot of colours.

The important thing is that you like it, JE. After all, it's your car, not mine!

They don't rock my boat Johnny, but I will reserve judgement until I see better pictures. As long as you like them thats the main thing as its your zed

I think better pics might help, JE. If you upload a photo taken in daylight, without editing it, it might help? Just a suggestion?

sorry

as you seem a great guy .... but black wheels absolutely a no no

as it was is better

I have to agree, it's not just yours Johnny I think black wheels look like the hub caps have fallen off.
(It's probably a generation thing)

Not a fan of the black wheels either but I'm not really a fan of them on any car. I say that as someone who hasn't changed their car one bit... my coupe is still 100% as it was intended to be 8)

are they missing spacers or is it just the angle/pic as they don't seem to have the presence in the arch still.... must be the pic.

black red and silver is bold JE

If you already have every other colour i can understand why you're trying black :)

I think colours suit based on the style of wheel, as these wheels are pretty sparse in surface area .. that's why i think silver, so they claw back some presence in the arches, however hugely busy wheels can potentially suit with black as long as they have the silver rim around the edge :D

...Such as my old favourite modded e46 M3 : http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showpost.php?p=2593219&postcount=1

Think it would have looked great with a black roof Jonny, but with the red roof, red lights and black wheels against silver - it's just too busy for me.

I'm glad you like them though

Not a fan, looks a bit boy racer now, it looked quite smart before with silver IMO. But its your car, as long as your happy etc.

Taking pics of black wheels is an extremely difficult feat, especially with the desert smog. When you see them in the flesh its a different gal game, you see the light on every feature of the rim, something difficult to capture via phone pic.
I've now got three cars with black rims and they really look fantastic in real life...so I'll reserve judgement for when I eventually meet Johnny and see his car in the flesh.

I love black wheels on a roadster normally, but I think that's because they go so well with the black roof, thats what I like about mine anyway. With the red roof, i'm not so sure...

Looked much better before.

When you said black I thought you meant with the diamond turning still. Not that that would have been much better.
