Having seen the pic that Jonnnnnny posted up, I would go for a bright/hyper silver or a gun metal colour, as your red roof is the deciding factor (which I love the look of) IMHO black wouldn't look right

Im sure Tom wont mind but this is his lovely Zed with the dark gloss gun metal wheels, 224s but mine are 313s but you get the idea, i think this is the colour i need :)

That looks stunning better than the black go for it

Silver, I've yet to see a car that looks good with black wheels.

Ive yet to see a car with hyper silver/ black chrome that doesn't look like a gypsy's caravan.....

I've got Black chrome finish wheels on my Jag

That is one beautiful motor you have there.

Johnny, shadow chrome looks great.

Get someone to play around with your alloys in photoshop. I would do it but my photoshop computer is in my loft :(

Can I suggest a different path?
Buy new wheels

I don't like those wheels there to thin and empty and show off the lack of brake disk.
I know CSL have been done to death but it's because they look the part

I would go silver. Having gloss black on my mini, it just blends into the car ruins the style of any wheel. As soon as it goes out after a wash they look so dull and lifeless. I have gunmetal 224s, exactly the same, pisses me off something chronic and with you being OCD like me I would say you'll be exactly the same. OEM silver on the CSL always look good, they sparkle even when a bit grubby.. As is with a refurb would be my choice, they look lovely how they come from BMW.

But when clean look good, but I don't really like the 224s, use them in the winter.

Shadow chrome is nice but suffers the same, any dark wheel does.

I actually think bings idea is very unique and would work with your car... Go for silver with red flecks in the lacquer... Would set off the roof nicely in sunlight.

silver, silver or silver....

I have Matt black alloys only for winter use... and that's just so they don't look dirty!

Its probably too late, I was thinking about this and to postpone it for a few days....
Buy a can of Plastidip for £9 and do one side of the cars wheels in black, you'll then get an idea of how things will look.

Once done and decision made, just peel it off.
