Glass/Rubber Creaking

I have a knocking creak, sounds plasticy, like a tapping noise.

It sounds like glass on rubber (how do I even know what that sounds like!?) and it comes from the top of the drivers side window, towards the windscreen. When I touch the button to lower the window, just slightly, the creak goes away.

I looked up Krytox but crikey, its expensive. Would silicone grease do the job? Any tips, folks?

this started happening me on the passanger side yesterday as well, i had the kid brother in the car touching every bit of trim trying to figure out what it was and sure enough lowered the window a little and it stopped.

Anyone else fixed this it's doing my head in, LOUD NOISES!

Have you tried the obvious? Lubricating the rubber seals on the roof and windscreen with something like Auto Glyms rubber dressing/treatment?

:driving:

my guess would be where the plastic internal window surround that comes up the A pillar. there is a locating grove that the plastic trim fits in to and the rubber seal positions over it to hold it down.

you have 3 surfaces, rubber, metal and plastic. its a good combination to make the most noise possible when there is small movements of the body.

If you lift the seal at the top of the window you will see the area I'm talking about. But don't go at it like a bull in a china shop :D

I think I know the area you mean....

I've got some gummi phlege somewhere so ill give the rubber bits a good going over.

Its doing my nut!

this is still happening on my passenger side and i'm about ready to try the "kick it till it stops" method.
http://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/lubricating-penetrating-oil/wd-40-specialist-high-performance-ptfe-lubricant-250ml sprayed this stuff down every bit of the seals i can find, no joy.

bought two bottles of gummi pflege, i've applied it to every bit of trim i can possibly force it onto/into at the window and it's still doing it

i'm about ready to put the boot into it :headbang:

about ready to think about getting rid of this, i can't get rid of it, fecking car is a total rattlebox

I think I may know what this is.

If you lower the roof a little so that the front section is vertical, you will see / feel some very thin plastic plates (black, and about an inch long) along the side edges of the roof. The plastic bits slide side to side on some tiny metal cylindrical spindles. Now you have found them, raise the roof and relocate with your fingers. By pushing the plastic plates towards the window (I use my thumb) you can move them to a position that doesn't rattle. Easy :)
