Afternoon All,

As I pursue fixing several relatively costless issues I have just 1 more problem that I need to sort.

I have just searched through 51 pages here and cannot find the thread and I am certain it was on here a couple of weeks ago.

Long story short, the steering sounds like a Whale dying in agony, only when stationary, no creaking or clicking or anything like that, steering is bang on now the car has 2 even fronts.

I recall the thread was around lubing / greasing part of the column under the steering wheel but I cannot find it at all now.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

that was to do with sticky steering which a lot of zeds experience.. I haven't heard many people complaining about noise from the rack tho.

I had this when I first got my Zed, I managed to spray WD40 type fluid into the the steering knuckle joint on the column in the engine bay. You need the flexi pipe on the can and need to spray up and down the joint.
I put a lot of it down to the fact that the car had been sitting for a long time before I got it.

That's was it, Sorry got it wrong. So this knuckle, anyone got a picture of it?

Also is it best to use something other than WD40 like an actual grease so it doesn't run bone dry after a while?

Intermediate shaft and it has two joints

I used a release spray from Germany called Kluber. If you look down the drivers side of the engine (UK) you will see the joint I speak of

As mentioned there are two universal joints in the shafts from the steering column to rack, lubricate with anything thats not WD40 (which removes lubricants), spray some silicone or ptfe spray thats safe on plastic in to the white plastic collar that surround the bottom of the steering column where it emerges from the bulkhead. If all else fails have a look at the procedure for lubricating the steering top slip ring (under the steering wheel) there were several how-to's around with pictures but seem to have disappeared probably due to photobucket shutting-up shop.
