Getting to grips with my new 2.5...

So, I'm no longer a "nearly newbie" (thanks, by the way, for the very helpful answers in my earlier thread) and I'm now a proper newbie: silver 2006 2.5i Sport with low mileage and a really lovely exhaust sound.

As with any second-hand car there are a couple of very minor niggles and queries...

1. What's the process for Bluetooth pairing? I note that some online resources tell me to enter a Bluetooth passkey, which I don't have in the pack I got from the dealer.
2. How do people attach the rear number plate? At the moment it's stuck on, but poorly - one end is floating free.
3. The the alarm keeps going off when the car is parked up. Is this a known issue, and is there a process for troubleshooting it?
4. The car has the BMW Business CD, which is OK. I'd like to replace it with a relatively low-cost Bluetooth/DAB unit which will still be operable from the MFL and from which I can run Android Auto on my phone. My current car has a single DIN Pure DAB, but it doesn't connect with the steering wheels controls. Any thoughts?
5. Really stupid question - how do I know if my Z4 has a subwoofer? Is it likely to be installed in a specific location?
6. Has anyone installed an unobtrusive USB port so they can run a car phone mount without having training wires all over the place?

Thanks in advance,

P

Hi and welcome
2. double sided foam sticky pads. Remove the old ones with fishing line
Oh and don't forget we like pictures :D

Alarm - probably the bonnet switch. Lift the bonnet and look in the middle up near the windscreen, those switches fail.

You can clean them up but they will cause problems again. around £12-£15 gets a new one from BMW and takes two mins to change over.

Thank you both - I'll get that bonnet switch tested and some new sticky things.

I dropped in to my local BMW dealer to see if they could show me how to run the Bluetooth pairing and was hugely unimpressed. I tried to explain that I was a new customer who'd be servicing his car with them for the next four years, and that I just needed someone to show me the Bluetooth pairing process, and they did everything in their power to put me off. Ah well.

Photo to follow when I've worked out where I can put it online...

I don't think the Business class CD has a sub woofer, unless a retrofit, somebody with more knowledge will be along soon probably
In the mean time a search on 'sub woofer' will give you plenty of reading material/ideas
This forum is great at spending your money! :D

Thanks, Obewan.

I'm fairly unfussed about a subwoofer. If I can get a decent head unit I'll be happy.

Not wishing to gate crash your thread but......... I'm looking at a 2.5 tomorrow and was wondering what sort of price and mileage you have. They seem to vary quite a bit. The one I'm looking at has one years mot and 3 month part and labour warranty
I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

Hi,

Not that I'm an expert by any measure, but if you want to give me a bell (I've PM'd you my number) I'll happily chat through my own experiences and give you a few notes to get you going...

Slightly relieved that I got in with this one before you, though!

https://postimages.org/ is the place to store your photies now after the photobucket fiasco.

I'm not the man to ask about bluetooth pairing  ... http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=99347

If you look behind the seats and have cubby holes, you don't have subs.

In that case, no subwoofer! I'll live with the disappointment.

Thanks for the link for the pics. Here's mine...

Eek!

I don't think so. How do I check?

take rear wheel off and have a look at the spring, a pigtail might have come adrift- it might not be obvious till the springs removed though

defiantly looks low,

Common issue OP, its usually at the bottom you will see if it is pretty quickly.

Car looks lovely OP enjoy :driving:

Is it an expensive fix?

Not really, it takes under an hour all in to change both of the spring (30mins by a good garage)

Springs from BMW are expensive ish but can be had cheaper from ECP and other places.

Surplex springs are good aftermarket replacements

Another option is to go for eibach springs and lower it a bit.
