Getting the top off the roof motor housing

Right I have decided to relocate the roof motor as a preventative measure. The first question I have is, is it really that bloody hard to just get the top of the plastic housing off? I have tried all sorts to prise it off but no go. I am wondering if there is still some tape that could be holding it place.

Yes there will be tape all around it.
You will also find that there is a clip round the back holding the hydraulic pipes tight against it.
Worth snipping the tywraps down the left side of the roof frame to give you a bit of flex in those pipes.

Its a pig of a job to get the top off if the original tape is still on it. When I did mine I speared the top at its joint with the canister bottom and used a long lever on a built up pivot point in the boot. Extream pressure eventually lifted the lid. The motor/pump can be lifted out and back into the boot once the lid is off as long as the pipes are freed from the bottom of the canister. Probably best to snip the tie wrap that holds the bottom half of the canister to the side of the well it resides in so the whole lot lifts out and back. Once in the boot its easy enough to get at all the working bits.

Used a screwdriver to do mine, eventually you break into the plastic and are able to lever the top away. You can then feel with your hands and snip the cable tie holding the hydraulics to the bottom. (Think you can do this step before you get the top off too).

Took me the best part of 2 hours but most of that was trying to get in the boot, swearing, and then trying to get out of the boot.

Its usually a cable tie holding the plastic canister to the side of the well it lives in that holds the unit in there, break that cable tie and the whole lot should lift up and back into the boot.
Picture shows canister, long slot has a tie wrap through it holding it in the well. Snap the tie wrap or the slot as shown in the picture by prying the unit upwards so the wrap or the slot snaps to release it. The hydraulic pipes are just clipped into shaped routes on the underneath of the canister and come out easily. Just hope no one else has been in there and put more tie wraps in there than the factory did!
