Really do feel for you Maniac, nothing worse than seeing your P&J on the back of a flatbed let's hope this is resolved quickly
 
Hope it gets sorted mate. Read through and was shocked you weren't told to make sure Bluetooth wasn't connected. Even when updating Nav you should turn bt off and leave the door open let alone fiddling with the dme.

I wouldn't let this put you off modding though.
You like cars and you love your car and if you want to make it more unique to you then go ahead.

Just go for tried and tested tuners and garages.
You got stung but back on the horse etc

Hopefully that stunning car of yours will be running how you want it
 
I've had a report back from the remap firm that the dealer has managed to get the car running again without the need for a new ECU. I'm not counting chickens until the car is back with me however.

The dealer has recommended a new battery which I've agreed to (mega money) given the cars age even though the battery has been fine and a bit low due to lack of use.

I did think this would be the case. Did he use a battery charger when attempting to flash? If it goes below 11.5v the DME will stop writing and you're fooked(apparently), hence you must use one during flashes. If you had an old battery and he didn't, then this was more likely the reason for the flash failing than your Bluetooth (IMHO)

Well IME diag is usually £80 and a reflash around £99 but that would depend on the work they did in the end. The battery is around £190 fitted and registered. Mega bucks but then if it needs it I'll do it.
 
They will have flashed a standard map into the DME....

With a proper machine and a proper tech its easy enough.....

The mappers were obviously inexperienced and little more than software loaders....

Been an interested bystander and feeling for you - glad it looks like you're on your way back to where you were and with a new battery :thumbsup:
 
Staying with the car as standard, I'm not going through anything like this again. Knowing my luck if I went ahead with the remap a turbo would give out or some other calamity. I'll put my money into keeping the car on form and not faffing with it.

I believe modern BMW's need to be told when you change the battery as the voltage changes slightly with the new one fitted and if you don't tell the car its been changed it can lead to various modules registering fault codes etc... As they are seeing slightly different voltages than there used to. Crazy I know! :headbang:
 
It's actually about charging the battery appropriately, as batteries age the charging protocol to get the best from them changes. So essentially the car needs to be 'told' it has a new battery or it may charge it incorrectly.
