Getting the old girl remapped... I should have learned my lesson by now...

Currently I'm waiting to hear if the original data file (unencrypted) is available (I have the two remap files but need the unencrypted original). If it is then I've found an engineering company that builds pro racing cars, that's respected and well spoken of, that has offered to attempt the restore for me.

This should be a couple of hundred quid if workable. Nothing to lose at this point.

Failing that it's over to BMW for repair then on to attempt cost recovery.

omg - not been on for a while so only just caught up with this.

gutted for you maniac, hope it gets sorted for you soon.

and 12k for a new loom on the porsche - expensive lesson :o

The remap chap is being proactive and taking the car to BMW on monday via a local recovery firm. He informs me he has quotes and has spoken with his insurance company so perhaps this is a positive sign.

That's better, still doesn't excuse his initial behaviour when he shuffled off denying any responsibility! Maybe he's taken some legal advice & realises he's responsible?
Hope you get a positive outcome out of it

Sounds positive, are you going with him to the dealers?

Do you have a good relationship with your dealer?
It might be worth calling in and having a word with the service manager !

I'm waiting to get the car back in my hands, then of course I will take proceedings against the company involved. I have to be careful naming them online incase I stuff up any chance (slim) of getting anywhere legally to be honest.

I would agree with that - Keep your powder dry at this stage

That's my plan. To follow the truck there and speak with my usual contact whom I know well.

It will be nice to get her back on the road, clear her throat and give her some spa treatment.

No more changes, lesson learned. Be happy with what I have.

I've taken this stance now to be honest with anything I do to the car and simple enough that I can do it myself. Learn't my lesson when I had a MINI Cooper S and decided to have an Eisenmann exhaust fitted. Contacted a local MINI specialist who ordered the exhaust at the princely sum of £875. Took the car in and had it fitted for a 100 quid :o so nearly a grand all in. Picked the car up and it was blowing all over the place. Had to go back to get it refitted. Picked it up again and one of the back boxes then came off its hanger. Booked it again and they repositioned the box and then after a few days noticed the back box was melting the rear bumper valence. Had enough by then and booked the car into BMW to have the exhaust removed and a full system refitted with a new bumber valence which was a further 700 quid. I sold the Eisenmann exhaust. Complete waste of money :(

Illigitimi non carborundum!

Go the 'proper' route and get a LSD fitted and then you can make maximum use of what you already have under the bonnet!

Not really important to your problem but how did they get it onto the recovery truck?
Were you able to release the e-brake or did they just drag it on?
I didnt think you could release the brake without the engine running.

Straps don't touch alloys. Took 30 minutes to load.

Ebrake will work on ignition only. DCT into N however takes removal of gearstick and insertion of weird Allen key that comes in tool pack. Right old faff on.

That was easy though compared with clearance issues!
