Getting the old girl remapped... I should have learned my lesson by now...

Just stating he is not liable does in no way absolve him from the contractual obligations he entered into. It means nothing and can be disregarded entirely. On the surface it seems things are moving in the right direction but be careful what you say and do - when faced with the true rectification costs he may just change his tune!

I'm kind of in the same boat with my car (not the z4 - that has now been sold).

I feel your pain maniac.

My story - bought new car in October, had mobile audio installers come to the house to fit fancy new all singing / dancing stereo. They left after a couple of hours & told the wife they had changed their minds about fitting it & wouldn't be doing it.

Came to drive the car next day - all hell broke loose / smoke in cabin / dash lights going mad. Car trailered back to dealer - turns out the loom has been damaged & is not salvageable. Still waiting to get the car back (hoping for next month).

Looking at a £12k bill which I will have to stump up to get the car back.

No chance of getting the money back from the audio installer - they point blank deny ever having seen the car, never mind touching it & suggest unless I can prove otherwise I should F*ck right off. Court is a non-starter, they laughed in my face - they do not have any assets in the business to take.

Wish you better luck!

OMG!

I think thats the worst case I've ever heard.

I think you should name and shame them on here, so others can avoid!

Sold the z4 35is to fund the purchase of my 'dream car' - Porsche 911 Carrerra S.

z4 had been pretty much perfect & trouble free (bar very minor niggles to be expected), so far the Porsche has only been in my hands for about a week. 12k consists of 5k to Porsche for the loom, plus 100hrs of labour to change it out.

Bad.

Anyways - sorry to derail - hope everything goes good maniac :)

That must be complete loom, I'd guess only part is damaged an a good indy or auto electrician could fix for a lot less, definitely get another opinion

What is more bonkers, letting mobile audio people touch a new Porsche or then paying Porsche 12k to fix the loom and replace the whole thing.

Not sure what to make of all that really!

Bonkers.

I remember being told by either Porsche Bolton or Sheffield when I had mine that each loom is specific to that particular car and options. Making retrofitting options etc generally a nightmare. To be fair I also let an aftermarket company loose on a brand new Porsche, but in my defence the company concerned had proper premises, a great reputation and also did a lot of custom stuff for Bentley at their factory, so I though it was probably in safe hands!

If it was a newish Porsche I guess it could easily have can-bus wiring, the resistance of these circuits is monitored for any increase & the cars brain could then turn the circuit off.
I wouldn't want one of those that had a ton of repairs to the loom :o
Regards

5k seems very expensive for the loom, even for Porsche. On the flip side 7k for 100 hours work is only £70 an hour, that seem very reasonable especially for porsche!

id be naming them on every forum i could for 12K if they have a van then they have an asset and if they are a sole trader and own a home then they also have an asset

Yep I get it - 12k is a lot of money.

Trust me, car was inspected by several auto electricians before I signed off on the 12k spend. The only option was to replace the loom & it basicly means ripping the entire car apart / refitting / putting back together.

The audio guy had a great website & many recommendations (supposedly) from people with high end cars - on paper it seemed ideal.

Only when it went tits up did the cracks start to show - go figure.

Anyways, once it is back it will be fixed properly & I will move on with my life.... live & learn.

you not naming and shaming to warn others?

I don't think I could leave it like that. Apart from your loss of 12k the rest of the general public need to be aware of this guy and his company.

I'd be talking to the police (fraud, misrepresentation, whatever) and your local trading standards office.

I'm waiting to get the car back in my hands, then of course I will take proceedings against the company involved. I have to be careful naming them online incase I stuff up any chance (slim) of getting anywhere legally to be honest.

If I can do anything without incurring large extra costs (good money after bad), then I will. That will be the time to 'name & shame'.

Basically have very low expectations of getting anything sorted legally, even though I am in the right - I put this message up on this thread just to give maniac a bit of support really & let him know he is not the only one going through sh*t with some idiot company.

My first priority is get the car back.

Wow thats potentially the worst story of cowboys wrecking a cari have heard.....

Surey there is some paper trail them accepting the work and you signing off a quote.

12k is ridiculous... Most insurance offers legal cover i would be picking up the legal cover and taking them to the hills.

Yes with a clause of greater than 51% chance of winning should it get to court. In this case it won't get anywhere near court as its his word against theirs unfortunately. Only recourse is a visit from 'the boys'
