Take it from me I spent 28 years involved in this line of work...You will NOT get a driving ban for a first offence of No Insurance.
Some other posters have alluded to it..& I will say it again, go to court & explain what has happened.
You will be able to give your account of what has happened & the Magistrates Clerk will advise the Magistrates on the sentencing option available to them.
Mitigation certainly has an impact on the court result, I've seen it first hand.
It may well be you have to spend some time on the court concourse with some undesirable people, be that as it may.
The Magistrates will see at first hand you are a decent member of the public and, hopefully be a little more lenient with their decision
