Getting sky+HD fitted in the morn-

depends on the channel, the quality of the TV and the interconnects.

SKY + is the dogs, HD is nice, especially movies etc. Eastenders in HD ain't all that!

You'll only get full HD (1080p) on Blue-ray.

I wouldnt mind but our 43 inch tv is not HD,but it was cheaper than sky+,sky told us the pic would be noticebly better even without a HD tv!-we do have a surround sound set up so films are great anyway :)

It's a definite improvement.
After a while you get used to HD and then standard looks rubbish.
Good investment.

LOL! Do you live in 1995? Depending on what you source input you have now, you may see some improvement from having SKY over terestrial.

If you connect with scart, always worth investing in a good quality cable - QED do a range at Tescos Hone which is pretty good.

Had Sky HD for a few years and on some programmes it's a nice improvement. You tend to miss it more when yo ugo 'normal' that actually while watching it.

As above real thing I like is the Sky+ with all the functionality that goes with that

Well stated Reggie-g75, a lot of people are taken in by the marketing rubbish co's like Sky can throw around. High Definition - yeh right, no way a HD signal can be sent over the sky pipe in the way they market it, they simply take the HD signal and compress it, then decompress at the Sky box, but this compression drops a lot of quality IMHO

Only true way to see HD is to have either HD-DVD or Blue Ray played by a proper (& quality) HD / Blue Ray player via HDMI or alternatively HD content via PC to screen or via a extender like Xbox 360.
1080i http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080i
1080P http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080p

there really is a difference between the marketing "HD" and trueHD

p.s. Enjoy it AndySat

Some good points made here. To add my two penneth....

HD is good... but in my opinion once you start watching a movie (if it is any good) you get so engrossed in the story that you don't notice the HD. For certain things though, like nature programs, sports (where you want to read the numbers on football shirts etc), or one scene in Basic Instinct then HD is very good, but for normal movies I tend not to get over excited about it.

Sound is much more important than HD. Providing you have a reasonable picture I think you will get a lot more from having a good quality audio system. Not bothered about 5.1 vs 7.1 etc, but a half decent surround sound system (think Onkyo or Yamaha) will help immerse you in the movie.

Back on the subject of HD, I find I appreciate it more on things like the F1, where the on screen graphics are a lot more clear in HD than on a standard screen... I don't actually notice the increased quality of the footage itself.

I'm still waiting for Babestation HD! :D

Discovery, Nat Geo and BBC HD are great for showing off the picture. When watching football I find myself distracted looking at the people in the crowd, but that's probably cos I'm a villa fan and crowd watching is more entertaining.

When setting up, your can find the optimum picture/sound settings on various websites or use the THX set-up on any StarWars DVD.

I'm thinking about the HD freeview package from Sky: 200 quid installed for SkyHD box and dish, no further subscriptions. Seems ok value given the price of a freeviewHD box alone.

Just unsure I'll get the full benefit though as we've got a 42" plasma that's only 720p. Didn't bother with full HD tv at the time as had no intentions of going for a blu-ray, but that might change...

Working away most of the time I get used to indifferent TV picture quality. But on returning home to the UK last month watching HD TV was a revelation but no doubt something regular users just get used to.

Standard sky+ was roughly £160 with box and install, sky+HD is free box and install, free HD for three months.
I was looking, and it seemed to me that sky+ was also free install and free box at the moment. Plus you get an HD box so you can see the free to air HD channels like BBC.

I saw on their website that they are changing their prices and packages as of the 1st september. Which is annoying as I move to my a new flat in July. I have never had sky before and am tempted to try it for a year

How have you lived without sky Drnick? :) -i think it depends on what day of the week it is for different deals,i rang to complain that we seemed to be getting a bum deal compared to other people we know and they changed our package for the better
