Getting Rid of Swirls

So after seeing a mirror polished fellow member's car on the north wales run (colin) My swirly scratchy paintwork is getting me down. I'm not well stocked in terms of elbow grease but do have a bosch orbital sander with lambs wool polishing pad and could fashion a softer cloth head for it if need be. Would that do the job with a bit of autoglym paint renovater or super resin polish or simonez was or summit else.

Alternatively, anyone no any good detailers in the Chester area?

Thanks folks... I feel another manifestation of my OCD comming on...

It all sounds a bit too heath robinson mate, I wouldnt risk it.

U need the right combination of process, polish and pads. Ive just invested in this....

Something to do whilst I try to avoid any mention of the royal wedding.

Get yourself a random orbit one mate, like a DA polisher. Trouble with your sander or any standard rotary is that you can burn your paint.

I used a DA for the 1st time this weekend and it was suprisingly easy, if time consuming. Used a mud range glaze and it's removed about 70%+ of swirls.

Why don't you use pads? Much neater. Working in garden but can stop for 5mins. Never done it though. Always used pads in mine

Your OS would be ok ish if you went and got a decent finishing pad from CYC with SRP this is just a filling process so you wont danage the paint just make it look nice and swirl free...... for a number of months but you are hiding them.

If you want to remove them yourself you will need a machine, pads and polishes to do the job right but it takes time.... lots of time to do it right.

My advice just fill the swirls or look to get someone in for a one off correction then learn how to keep it looking nice yourself.

Cheers

I know SRP is known for having lots of fillers, but I'm sure it does polish as well although not very abrasive? I wouldn't be taking the OS to my paint. DA or professional with a rotary. Either way it's going to cost you to get it looking nice.

Poorboys Blackhole is a great polish/glaze for dark cars - has loads of fillers to hide a lot of the swirls. IMHO, much better gloss finish that SRP. finish with a nice wax or LSP - I've just invested in some Zaino Z8 on top of megs GC wax- zaino is absolutely brilliant!. The GC wax is not the best wax, but has a bit of filler too.

Visited Shinearama last week (Altrincham) and got myself a DAS-6, some LC pads, Menzerna polish, Billberry for the wheels, Zaino, plus new bucket and grit guard.

Will be breaking my DA cherry over the weekend

Some great info on detailingworld and some brilliant guides on how to do stuff.

I will 2nd the Poorboys Blackhole. i used this last yr on my saphr black z4,and it does a great job,tho u will need to use a wax protectant as well. i use a megs or sonus swirl remover, then the poorboys blk hole, followed by dodo juice purple haze wax,and a turtle wax premium topcoat sealer,a couple of times a yr,and they are all v good. (despite my car having more than its fair share of stonechips, lol).

u could just use the poorboys then a wax though, with similar results, tbh

If your just looking for improvement then AG srp will do something. Ive used and did have a shop selling poorboys world products and though blackhole is good. Chemical guys ez creme glaze with acrylic shine does the job better. I use it on every detail now even if it doesnt need it as it adds a comparative edge to the finish. It will need protecting so that all depends on how extravagant your feeling. Cheap and durable collinite 476s is a winner also Autobright car care ab carnauba paste wax. For something luxurious. Dodo juice supernatural or one of the Zymol / Swissvax clan would be a worthy purchase but atm, Zaino is where its at.

ez creme is on my next shopping list

Scott - any suggestions on alloy sealant? I'd like to be able to just pressure wash and go. Heard a lot about nano sealants....

chars.........

I tend to use smart rimwax or Zaino ccs. You can use Permanon supershine which is Gtechnic C2 anyway and a doddle to use plus holds out at over 300degrees melting point so will suit the wheels very well.
