Getting out old bushes!

Hi Guys,

I set about removing the old rear outer/lower trailing arm bushes (the ones behind the brake disk). To replace them with some camber adjusting eccentric ones. The only problem is, the bush removal tool that came with the kit isn't up to much, and i've even put a huge record vice on it with some massive sockets and still not budging. Has anyone had any luck removing these any other way (drill the rubber and cut the sleeve with a hacksaw?)

I'd love to hear from anyone who has changed these themselves.

Are you using a quality gear puller ?

I was using the removal/fitting tool that came with the kit, so not really quality... its more like 2 sockets and a bolt. Although i put a hell of a lot of force on it using the vice and some sockets and it didn't move a mm.

Is it worth going to my local garage and borrowing a puller? Any suggestions on a good design/type for these bushes?

I've taken the lollipop bushes out by removing the rubber and then hacksawing the metal outer. Quick tap with a hammer to fold it in and it popped right out. Not easy compared to a press or puller but does work.

Thanks, i think this might be my quickest option given the corrosion. How did you get the rubbers out? Drill? I don't fancy melting them out that near the fuel tank.

Actually used a press as I got the lollipops off the car and then needed to remove the inners to reuse the casing with polybushes. If it was on the car I'd drill it, I've seen videos where they let the bit spin near the edge and it rips right round the circumference of the rubber like a milling machine to save you making lots of holes.
