Our first baby was born four days ago,he is called Daniel.

We love him to bits but it is hard work when you are not used to all this.

I know that there are a number of dads (and probably a few mums) on the forum so please post your 'get baby to sleep' tips here before I die of tiredness please!

You should be grateful you only got one, we had twins

Congratulations!

Not a dad, but hear a drive can work... Even if it doesn't, you'll be having fun ;)

Newborns do sleep a lot the first few weeks (14 to 18 hr a day) but not for long periods of time. So during the night so you'll probably need to wake your wife several times to change, feed, and comfort.... :P

congrats, not got any myself, but a big family so well used to kids. just make sure they are well fed you will get 4 hours at most even doing that, its a team effort for you and your wife/partner.

Got none of my own but most of the guys around here are 30'ish and having kids so I see them all dragging their butts around surviving on minimal sleep. all I can say is "Congrats " and Good Luck.....

srhutch, I have twin cousins, they started out just like yours, sweet little blonde angels (in Sussex, Haywards Heath actually), enjoy it while you can, they don't stay that way...

They become teenagers and then the fun begins... :!:

Got 2 Girls, now 17 & 20, i wish they were 4 days old again,

Congrats to you both on the new ankle biter

We used to shove em in the pram and take walk round the block, normally asleep before i hit the first corner but finishing the walk got fresh air in to them, seemed to knock em out for a bit longer, but as everyone else has said "TEAM Effort" very happy time but can be stressful to you both. "TEAM EFFORT" m8

Good luck
and remember
:worthless:

Oh! and hold them close to your chest when cradeling them and hum in as deep a tone as you can, the vibration soothes them, at least that what my dad told me, worked sometimes but not always effective.

Once you crack it let me know..... Ill tell my next door neighbour to give it a go with thier recent bundle of joy :headbang:

That was the sit-in protest when their dad threatened to sell the car :D

What we used to do was indeed go for walks, and when at home make sure you create plenty of noise so they get used to sleeping whilst activity goes on. If you tip toe, they wake up at the tiniest amount of noise ...

Worked a charm with my baby Nephew....

Congrats! I am 19 so Im not really interested in having kids yet, but I like to practice the "how to make them" part every now and then  :D

Congrats!

Might I suggest a small hit of Whiskey?

just kidding, I'm a single feller with bunches of nieces an nephews. When they'd get cranky I'd usually hand em to their moms :P
