Getting nervous...

I've been reading the horror stories about people's automatic roof motors not working and I'm beginning to worry. :(
My roof has begun to need a little push in order to go down, it won't go down on its own. The latches can't unhook without a push from me, and they've been feeling more 'stuck' as time has passed. Are these the beginning signs that my motor is about to fail? Is there anything I can do to prevent a costly repair?
So afraid

If your car is a pre-facelift then the motor can get water logged and fail. You can take steps to clear drain holes but if the motor is failing its probably already too late. The 2006 on cars don't have the same problem but I supose the motor can still fail.

Try lubricating all the joints in the hood mechanism... Someone posted a while back that this helped theirs (try a search for bike chain grease... Someone said this is the best thing to use, from memory)

Could also put a bit of grease on the clasps at the top of the windscreen.

My facelift zed is going into the $tealership at some point to have the drains unblocked and motors inspected under warranty :)

I too have this concern as mine is a pre face lift and I am not aware of any new motors being fitted in the past.

I would try lubricating the mechanisms initially, it could be that they are a little stiff. If the motor is going to go, I would expect it to go suddenly rather than gradually?

You cant really do much other than clear the drain holes, and keep the car under some sort of cover and thus limit its water exposure. I also ensure my roof has a decent water proof coating (currently use Autogylm), as then most water runs straight off. There is a guide in the "how to" section for cleaning the drainage holes. Apparently the side where the motor is, is difficult to clean.

As for cleaning the motor itself, I dont think this is possible. There is a guide in the "how to" section I think, that describes how you could replace the motor yourself, but its a big job and requires the whole roof unit to be removed. If mine ever goes, I will do it myself with help from a mechanic freind!
