Getting my Z4 back on the road...

Hi everyone, not posted on here for a while but I was hoping you'd be able to help me.

I took my Z off the road last year as I had bought a new car and the plan was the sell it. I never got round to advertising it mainly because I really didn't want to. I've now decided to keep it and I want to get it back on the road for summer. But, because it's been sitting for a while, I don't just want to start her up.

I took the battery out when I put her on the drive way and I was wondering what else you would recommend I do to get her back on the road in full strength.

I was thinking things like, drain and replace oil, replace spark plugs. But is there anything else you would suggest I do before trying to turn her over?

An oil change is always a good idea. Personally I don't really understand the replacement of spark plus if there are no misfires. To my mind, spark plug replacement is fitted into servicing schedules because there's a chance that they may fail in the foreseeable future and car service schedules assume that the owners are unable to maintain their own cars. Therefore, they replace spark plugs at set intervals so that there should never be a misfire as a result of tired plugs. I'd save my money if I were you. You wouldn't replace your windscreen unless it was broken :)

I guess you could put it in top gear and rock it backwards/forwards to break free any corrosion that may have formed in the powertrain, but that shouldn't really be an issue either. Check your tyre pressures, make sure it warms up okay and the thermostat opens...nothing too major.
 
Do basic fluid level checks, oil, coolant, brake fluid, etc. Then the air pressures as mentioned before. Also you didn't mention whether you've been charging the battery? So ensure it's topped up before you install it back. Depending on how long its been standing and damp/rain the discs might be rusty so take it easy till you wear all that build up down (will have poor braking for a few miles). Also tyres may have "flat spots" so again just take it easy for a hundred miles or so! Maintain the checks on all aspects to ensure nothing is dropping like coolant. Otherwise just enjoy! :driving:

I would just do fluids and filters then pull the fuse on the fuel pump before turning it over for 30secs or so to get some oil circulating. Then replace fuse and start her up.
 
+1 on that. fluids, filters, fuse out, crank over with fully charged battery, fuse in,with fresh fuel and away you should go.
