Getting concrete dust off my car - Sorted hopefully!

Well I don't often visit this part of the forum, but I woke up this morning to the sound of a petrol cutter. :headbang:

And one of the neighbours had a couple of blokes cuttings some paving slabs - in the parking space directly opposite my car.

I'm thinking I need to rinse this off with a hose or buckets to avoid any issues next time I wash it, but any other advice or tips would be much appreciated!

TIA.

I'm no expert but I'd imagine you'd want to get it all off with a hose before it dries. A few sports of rain on that dust would potentially cause further issues I'd imagine

Thanks guys - it looks like I'll be trying to fix the hose tomorrow morning then! :x

I’d give that copious rinsing before trying to wash it, less chance of marking the paint that way 👍

I'm guessing cement dust is 'heavier' and more sticky than 'common dust'. When my car is quite heavily contaminated I do the following:

  • Snow foam the dry paint work
  • Rinse the car thoroughly
  • Snow foam it again
  • Rinse
  • Wash the car as normal using a high quality wash mitt
  • I'd then wax the car to protect the paint because, as someone mentioned, cement is a strong alkali and will have stripped some of the protection.

I do the above mainly because I'm against using any aggressive (i.e corrosive) cleaning product on my car, specially because of my lovely 108s. I also don't use the double bucket method, every time before I put the mitt in the shampoo bucket, I rinse it in a tap. I'm quite neurotic about swirl marks...

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I managed to get my hose working so gave it a real good rinse, and while I was doing it my neighbour came over to apologise. She said she didn't realise they would need to cut any bricks (so it was brick dust)!

Anyway it looks like it's all gone - just need to wash it now ready for the Ace on Saturday.
