Getting 107s Refurbished - Now back with photos

Sent my alloys off to lepsons today for refurbishment. Though i might try something a little different. The wheels are due back on monday but in the mean time i have some photoshopped photos to show what im trying to achieve. To be honest im a bit scared that ive made a mistake.
This is the finish im going for. Its a satin black powder coat.

And the car from the front. I have also blacked out the front grille centres because i think this may go nicely with the wheels.

Wheels are now back and fitted to the car. I also painted the grill centres black...

look good but a bit too dark for my taste, would look better if your hood was black or have a hard top.

ive had my 107's refurbed locally in mercury grey, painted and lacquered they look great, very glossy finish and when covered in brake dust look matt rather than dirty. down side is with my black hood they look a bit odd, but top down or hardtop on they really set the car off. in low light they look a dark grey, but in bright sunshine they come out with a hint of blue, i think next time id go for a darker grey, black is too dark for me and you loose the great look of the 107''s. if they come out like your 1st pic they should look good :thumbsup:
 
A little bit too dark for me too unfortunately, but I can see where you're coming from. On a silver car I've always thought the 107s/202s in a gunmetal finish (not too far removed from the original finish) would be very nice.
 
Bit of a mixed reaction from everyone. If the worst comes to the worst then i will just have them redone in silver. Appreciate all the feedback, thanks all. :thumbsup:
 
They look ok.

Lepsons are pretty good too, so good on going to them, should be a great job!

Lastly, photoshopping never does wheels justice vs them being really on the car.


Worst case they are not to your tastes, sell them on, and maybe buy some 108's in need of a refurb etc?!

Like the overall effect, and I'm sure that the real thing will look even better when you get them backand fitted to the car.
As an alternative if you don't like them, let me know and I'll swap you my set of scabby 107s and you can try again in a different colour :D

It's not doing it for me. Little too dark, flattening the Zed and needs a few more details to carry the theme off.

Not surprising from me given I sold my 107's have a Steling grey and went for a lighter effect on 108's

Good though to see something different :thumbsup:
 
Did you go with the powder coating in the end? Looks very similar to my painted dark anthracite.

I'm not entirely sold - think CJ is right about the theme. More colourful / contrasting surroundings may help. Important thing though is whether you like them. If you decide you're not keen and want another go, have a look at DaveG's elips, look great and lighter colour.

No, I think I like them. Lepsons do great work :thumbsup:

Thanks for the opinion cj. I know what you mean about needing more detail to carry the theme off. Im racking my brain to think what to do. Im sure clear indicators would help, but the cost/hassle doesnt appeal at the mo. I was thinking perhaps a meaner front bumper such as an aero one, or perhaps even a Z4M one. It does look much better in the flesh. Ive had loads of positive comments over the last couple of days. It looks quite mean now.
Also if you have any ideas cj they would be appreciated (as long as one of them isnt spray your wheels silver) :D

The first time i saw them i loved them. Then i started to have doubts, then i decided i loved them, then i had doubts.......you get the picture. :D
Now im pretty sure i made the right choice. the car looks like more of a track weapon now, rather than a posing car. certainly less bling and more Q car.

ps i decided to go for the powder coating and lepsons have done a sterling job. :thumbsup:

You're welcome and it's only an opinion. I'm always pleased when others make such comments to me during what has been a long build on mine as it's a great reality check. So given you won't chrome them or spray silver (that I would not do either as they do lok really good) then it's probably a bit of a track or stealth theme you need to continue.

IMHO at the moment we have dark wheels on an otherwise stock car, so I would change the amber side repeaters to clear and put on a full set of quality carbon badges (black and white will emphasise the theme). A more aggressive bumper would look good, but expensive and in this instance I think aero sideskirts would carry off the side profile. I'm not one for lowering but that woudl fit the theme too.

Since clear headlights are expensive I'd tint the ambers and then do something on the rear end to complete the theme. A CF difuser would look pukka, but to avoid costs I'd spend some time thinking about that area.

As I said just an opinion.
 
Thanks cj, alot of food for thought there. Im definately going for clear lenses at the rear and side repeaters. I would love to lower it but i already scrape against all the speed bumps locally. Still its something im still looking into. Im not keen on carbon fibre badges, but i like the idea of the aero side skirts.
If i was to fit an M front bumper, would i have to fit facelift headlights? If i did has anyone worked out how to get them working on a pre-facelift car without lots of hassle?
