Get the heated steering wheel

If you're ordering new and on the fence, get it. I thought it was just a "warm the wheel up after the car's been parked in sub-zero temperatures" kinda thing, useful and luxurious but not necessary where I live. Blasting around top-down though I realise it'd go a long way towards stopping my hands getting cold whilst driving. Wind chill is real.

Totally agree. High on the list of "musts" if you drive through a British Winter. :driving:

While a heated steering wheel is an absolute essential for me, in my experience heated steering wheel is worse that nothing for keeping your hands warm due to wind-chill! Your palms get hot so your hands sweat and so the backs of your hands get even colder!

The solution is standard thought - AC off, auto off, hand/face vents only & heater up to full fan at 3 or 4. Now that's the ticket.

I speak as a man with Raynaud's syndrome/white finger & severe nerve trauma.

Yep it's very nice to have, although not sure mine's working correctly, seems to warm up very quickly then tails off to barely Luke warm after about 20 mins.

I must be hankering back to the 60s but the Zed is one of the few cars I seem always to drive in gloves - I have a thin pair of black leather (no perforations  ) - even so I use the air vents angled to the back of my hands. Mind you, the roof is down all year (unless it's raining).

Heated steering wheel - interesting. . . .

:driving:

I don't like full gloves, but I have a pair of cycling gloves - fingerless with soft grip studs on the palm that I wear when it's very cold

Is it thermostatically controlled? Anyone know...............?

Yep - the heated wheel is not a 'constant on' thing.

It heats up & then maintains at luke warm to stop the elements frazzling - it is by design.

I read somewhere that the cutoff is about 10 minutes, which for me at least does the job.

The main use (for me at least) is to get over that first few minutes while the main heaters kick in. Cold day, get the seat heaters & wheel heater on for a few minutes first - then the main aircon is up & running so all is good.

I rate the heated steering wheel as one of the most must-have extras now after premium stereo and some form of sport suspension.

BMW is making a big mistake hiding it inside the "executive package" for some of the more expensive cars. I'm not gonna pay $4000 for a heated steering wheel.
