Having finally ditched the runflat tyres(after 2 and a half yrs of owning myz4),i wish i had done it ages ago.
The ride is far better, with no tram lining,or crashing over bumps etc.
Couple this with the bmw strutbrace i fitted a few weeks ago,and the car is tansformed. it now feels more like what the car should have been out the box,so to speak.
I can now safely say its now the equal to the porsche boxster 2.7 my mate used to own(which i drove a few times),but faster. previuosly, the z4 was worse due to the comfort/handling not being as good/tho now its superb. turn in is better, sharper and the comfort is vastly better, while staying fully flat and planted thru corners at speed. awesome!! :D (bmw, please ditch the rft's).

how much was the strutbrace and how easy to fit?

Depends on where you get the strutbrace from....I've seen em go from$150 on up.
Super easy for em to fit.

As Lacrou and others (myself included) if you have a roadster, it's worth the non RFT's and a strutbar.

(I hope ya'll realize how difficutlt it was for me to type that cohereantly

OK, feel it's my duty to again help gannet plug the PS2 ZPs. Run flats are not the problem most make of them. Going from worn out runflat tires to ANY new tire is going to make a significant difference. Now that they're bedded in, I have ZERO problems with them (not that I had any with the Bridgestones other than noise and short tread life). Just my two cents worth and I don't have to lug around the compressor and juice.

aw - thanks smokin :D

all the things craig3.0 mention (no tramlining, quiet, smoother ride etc...) Ive experienced with the michelin run flats (PS2 ZP) so not all run flats are bad

i've only had my z4 about a month but last weekend had a trip from swindon to kent driving on the m4 was a nightmare, on my trip to work and back i thought the tyres weren't too bad couldn't understand what the fuss was about, but it was dangerous driving on the motorway with these tyres.I have been looking at a set of falkens fk-452 which i can get a set for £425 fitted thats 255/35/18 rear and 225/40/18 front which seem to have pretty good reviews i then priced up for a set of michelin ps2 zp they come in at a whopping £992 so i think i will get a can tyreweld and go for the falkens, i know michelin ps2 tyres are good having had some on a motorbike

Half way through replacing the RFT's and put Uniroyals on the back. Despite this being heresy, due to some postings, the comfort and ride have improved enormously. Just waiting about another 4-5K before ditching the fronts

I called my local tyre place to find out how much they want for Michelin PS2 ZP's. Apparently they are not making in 225/45/17 any more? The replacements are the Primacy HP ZP's.

This has my decision for "which tyre" more difficult. I thought I was going for the PS2's as there have been some many good reviews on this forum for them.

Despite punctures being fairly rare these days I'm not enthusiastic about going none run flat without a spare. I have heard that tyres which have been patched with that foam stuff will not be repaired.
I also don't want to lose any boot space for carrying a spare + tools.

Aw well something to sort out later. :)

They probably use the same runflat technology as the PS2 ZPs so the ride will be as good I would have thought...

Craig - glad to hear you're pleased with the change. Out of interest, what tyres have you put on?

Should work great. I have the sport package, have the staggered set up, so didn't realize they may have discontinued a size. I'm also hearing very good things about the Continental run flats and Kumho has come up with a run flat. Those last two may be very limited in availability, though.

Oh, BTW, the Michelin and Continental are "approved" tires for BMW (look for the 5 pointed star on the side of the tire) so you won't get any hassles come trade-in time or warranty service time.
